Issues with launcher and the patches

Hi folks, this is the second time that I've had this happen to me.

System comes down for a patch, I leave the launcher up to have it update while I'm in bed, at work, going out to see that giant fire demon in the sky... you know, the usual stuff. Anyways, the past two patches, instead of coming back to see the game is ready to launch, I'm getting an error message that says that there are other instances of the game trying to run and the patch could not be completed.

Alright, fine, shut down all the handy launchers that somehow popped up. Giant blue repair button. Same thing.
Shut down all versions of ESO in task manager. Giant blue repair button. Same thing.
Reboot computer, killing all hope of the launcher working in the background in some secret file. Appreciate the color coordination of the launcher, giant blue repair button. Same thing.

So, now I'm sitting here, clicking the happy little tab by the wraiths eternally consuming each other by game options, clicking repair in there, waiting about 30 minutes... and YAY! I can game!

So, I know the obvious solution, don't be impatient... but who has time for that? Mostly I'm just curious why it keeps happening. Anyways, thanks!
