Is there a way to report threads, but not persons?

I often want report threads that are necromanced and contain outdated information, or just threads where the discussion has become very negative - but I find no button for it, I go to page one, press report the Original Poster and write my report of the thread through that, where I also shortly explain that I dont mind the person being reported ...however I feel it is a bit wrong.

I dislike having to report a player, instead of the thread itself. Is there a way to do it,that I have been overseeing? I keep searching and find no options for this purpose at all.

No there is not - just report the first offender you notice as being the bringer of negativity or necromancer and write your little blurb (which I'm sure they will ignore, thereby effectively resulting in you sentencing whoever you reported into Report Hell).

If a thread has degenerated, you could just report them so that the moderators have some direction on where to look and see where things are becoming unpleasant.

Post necromancy that isn't degenerate, however, is kind of up in the air. Sometimes a Google search for an issue will bring up an old thread, and someone will post before looking at the dates -- I've done this myself, the text for timestamps is freaking tiny! If someone is adding to the conversation, there isn't any REAL harm to it.

Often these posts just fade back into obscurity in a day or two.

Just say in the report why you're reporting it and it's not tied to the person but the thread as a whole.

I don't think the person will see action if you report their post unless there was something in it which they shouldn't have been doing any way.

@Betheny & @Eiagra & @Turelus thanks for answering my question, that there is no option to report a thread.

Btw. I do report individuals, and explain that it's the thread I'm focused on reporting and I also mention the title of the thread. I already do that :p I was just hoping for a better option than this.

You can always PM a mod with a link to the thread and why you think it needs looking at.

You could always reply to the thread and then report your own post; I've done that before ;)

The forum team definitely do read the report messages though, to find out whether you're reporting the poster or the thread in general.

or just threads where the discussion has become very negative

what's the problem with negative threads? abort reading and skip them if you don't like what you read.
you can't expect everyone being happy about everything. this game has its negative aspects so the discussions tend to be negative. not talking about such things won't make those things magically go away.

if you're talking about insults that of course is another subject... or maybe define what you mean by "negative"

@Tandor & @Enodoc thank you, I didn't think of doing that before.... I would feel more comfortable PM'ing a moderator or reporting my own post than someone from a thread.

@InvitationNotFound I ment when an innocent thread gets hijacked by personal attacks, due to disagreement between the posters. I don't mind people complaining about something, or disagreeing or heavily debating over something :p I will not waste anyones time reporting that :p

Insults & banter to a certain degree can be fine too tbh. between roleplayers, competitive pve raiders & pvp players, as long as it is kept to the game and not personal. They enjoy taunting eachother...

I was told to report the thread to a Moderator.

I go to the necro'ing post, and report that one. In the reason why box I just say, "While this thread was useful 2 years ago, most of the information is outdated or just plain wrong now. No reason to disturb its long repose with a pointless reply."
