repairing armour with soul gems?

Vivienne

As you guys might know - repairing VR armour is expensive and can be annoying since lots of players don't carry repair kits with them or forget to repair them at a vendor before starting a dungeon.

I think it would be a great idea if players were able to repair their armour partly (like a low level repair kit) by using soul gems since they are way easier to obtain and you can repair them anywhere you want because you are always carrying soul gems with you, so no more "oops, I forgot going to the vendor, heading quickly back to the city brb *thousand minutes of loading screens later* - Hi guys I'm back"

You can charge weapons with them, so why not repair armour?

Maybe I'm just being silly here but I don't know, I kinda like the idea. What do you guys think?

Stand firm for what you believe in, until and unless logic and experience prove you wrong. Remember, when the emperor looks naked, the emperor is naked. The truth and a lie are not “sort of the same thing”. And there is no aspect, no facet, no moment of life that can’t be improved with pizza.

Well I think you're just refilling the enchant on weapons not repairing them .

Mhh, that's true. Well, that's why I said "charge weapons", but you're right.
Anyways, I think charging weapons is somehow similar to repairing armour.

Exactly. And this fits with TES tradition as well.

Armor can be repaired with filled soul gems. One sells the gems and used that gold to repair armor. Armor repair is an intended gold sink and it's not that bad of a gold sink at that.

It doesn't seem a weapon get damaged in this game, so you're right, it just seem to need a recharge. I think it is a waste to use soul gems for armor charge or repair. You're getting plenty of gold from completed quests, dead enemies and treasure chests to offset the cost of merchant's repair of armors. I'm also constantly picking up weapons, armors and gears selling to merchants/fence for gold. So, it's not that bad to have a merchant repair the armors for the price when I'm constantly adding gold to my bank. Now, buying weapons and armors from trade guilds is what depletes the bank fairly quick.

Where is lore meaning of that?

When you die, your soul disconnects from your body and goes to another plane. A Soul Gem fix that stuffing a different soul in the empty body. It's weird, but makes sense given the context.

Weapons, kind of convert the souls into energy for their ecnhantments. It's even more weird, but only because the Dwemer used to do something similar, combining technology with magic (and weapon crafting is a sort of technology), it's explainable... sort of...

But armor is something crafted with physical materials, leather, metals, fibers... How to explain a physical damage to be magically restored? I know, I know, theoretically magic could do anything, but even so sounds too forced to me.

It's different than healing, which is basically fix the physical body, because magic could be... I don't know, stimulating the tissue regeneration, creating mutated stem cells (that acts faster in the organism)...

I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

Recharge armor with shards could be a solution but I think it's cheaper to repair with gold if you had to spend a shard for each piece.

I would however like to repair it myself with mats - It's weird you can create this wonderful piece of armor but can't fix it yourself... but that chef knows how...

Exactly, you're right. That what my second thought too. Well, then it was just me being silly with my 1200 soul gems. Sorry guys! xD

Even though other have pointed it out already, with soul gems you basically refill the energy in the weapons.

Also, that's part of the challenge. Meaning if you always have with you a solution to every problem the game could be even easier. If you die many times you should "pay" for it by going to town and repairing your armor or by purchasing those expensive repair kits. This, IMHO, holds especially true for veteran players.

As for your concern about spending a bit of money into repairing VR armor pieces and solving this by using soul gems, this marvelous scene came to my mind:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgct3Jn8pFA

OFC the 20 dollars would be the soul gems (since a stack fo 200 can be sold for 6k gold at the vendor).
    My characters (EU PC):
Leopardo Di-Caprio (Khajiit Templar) || Matthew Makehoney (Altmer Sorcerer) || Luck-Luster Burt (Redguard Dragonknight)
Clint Histwood (Argonian Templar) || Martin Uber Ping (Redguard Sorcerer) || Louis Farmstrong (Imperial Nightblade)
    Anthony Hotskins (Altmer Nightblade)

Whatever makes people think repairing your armor is like charging the magical battery that powers your weapons special effects???

I mean, go on... next time you rip your t-shirt, try to repair it with your mobile phone charcter... :p;)

But that being stated... it -would- be nice if there were some more repair options. Like, repair kits being found in-game, if soul gems are, so should repair kits!
And perhaps even make them craftable! I wouldn't even mind if they split the repair kits into armor classes and let us have more of them... just let our crafters make repair kits from raw materials, and let some enemies carry them (I mean... NPCs need to keep their gear in good condition too, right??)

I agree. The grocer can repair all my gear, but me being a master blacksmith, clothier, and woodworker can't. That is asinine.

about people going to dungeons with damaged gear.I have been one of those.ZOS please extend the 1 minute break they give you to do things before jumping into the dungeon.1 minutes its not enough time. Many times im grinding mobs and by the time I finish killing the mobs, finish the porting animation and the long loading screen to then run to a vendor, repair and sell stuff the minute has already pass and i get to the dungeon with few bag space and damaged gear.
