I agree, it's nice to see threads praising the game instead of complaining.

What I really enjoy about it is the fact that almost every quest is involving, and the game feels alive. You see the consequences of your actions, you can talk to almost any NPC to see how their feeling and even though these are just quests, you feel like you are making an impact on the world because you can see yourself changing it.

So as much as people like to complain about this or that, I just wanted to help give the game some praise in an area where I don't think it gets much credit, and that is world building, quest design and atmospheres and ambience.

Ah yep, I agree if the time periods were the same of course. Can we not gravedig almost 5 year old thread posts maybe?:) oh course the game was better back then, mainly because it was playable:)

I wrote this four years ago. I still play and still like it.

    Yeah, that's just too recent.

Find something a little more seasoned to respond to!
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I feel for the quest writers though because originally the design philosophy was that you should be able to make meaningful choices on quests. But they had trouble with keeping different versions of the world straight - and each new expansion of quests has to work for every different set of choices players could have made in the past.

So they kinda bailed on the "choices" thing, and they've mostly put everyone into the same single narrative, wiping out any choices you might have made earlier in the game. So in that sense the RP factor, for quests, is not quite there IMHO. Everyone sees pretty much identical stories and has no real control over the narrative. But I agree there's some good writing going on.
