Darrien Gaultier Quest Recurrence

I logged on to one of my characters doing Cadwells Gold today and went in to pick up delivery from hirelings and I noticed a mail from Darrien Gaultier which I'm sure was not their before and I had not done quests recently. So I read it and there is a quest in my log called Recurrence. A bit mystified I checked online quest databases and this doesn't seem to be registered anywhere. Now its also April the 1st so can you see where I'm going? However I asked others if they had the quest and they said no? Is this a proper quest as it does appear under main quests?

This is from an addon. I forget which one. If you have Harvest Map installed, you were also sent a mail from "Darien Gautier" asking you to find him. Both have an option in their respective settings menus to disable the "April Fools" feature.

So, do you have Harvest Map addon? Just making sure, because I actually would be pretty happy with some news on Darien's situation and why the hell we have not mobilized the guilds to go after him. He is just as much of a hero as the Vestige is in my book.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Its an april fool joke of the harvest map addon. You can go under the addon setting and disable it at the bottom if it annoys you.

Considering they spelled the name Darien Gauntier, it was a bit of a fail.

Damn you HarvestMap! I got really exited for a minute there, but after the "We know" mail, I kinda guessed it being an April fools joke.

Ahh too bad. I would've loved it to have him back in the game. He was such an amusing npc.

Agreed. The text in that email isn't made up; you can get it in-game, in a real message from Darien.

He shoved the king towards the light to try and save him, then was never seen again. Maybe Meridia took pity on him and sent him back. I have a sneaking suspicion they will bring him back somehow.

Funny thing is I just did a main quest on an alt this morning where something happened to Darien (yes I'm intentionally being vague). Then I logged that alt off and logged in another character who immediately received the "Recurrence quest". The timing was uncanny.

I figured it was an April's Fool thing but I began to do it for fun and it advanced a quest stage and I even said "Darien:D" in zone chat in Rawl just for fun. Then I lost my connection immediately after doing that and realized my Comcast phone and internet service went down at that moment.

Talk about big time April Fools joke on me.

Yeah if it's an April fool's then it's a pretty crap one. I finally followed it on The 3rd April and I'd imagine ESO wouldn't be too pleased about it adding a fake quest. I'm appreciative of the hard work going into addons and obviously they do get some financial remunerations. I am really unimpressed that they break the trust between user and developer and take liberties with the game itself, adding quests etc.

'm appreciative of the hard work going into addons and obviously they do get some financial remunerations.

I wonder where you got this from? Don't spread any rumors please.
I never heared of any financial remuneration nor did I get anything (not a single donation so far) for my work on addons that thousands of users use.
But i'm not asking for it neither. Addon devs are just coding for fun, to help, to improve games where users request it or where we like it to be improved (and other users like it the same way, thus use this addon then).

And just to be clear: I did not invent this aprils fool. But I'd be proud if I had!
Many users just liked it as it was a fool, fun, and you had soemthing to do that was not the usual daily stuff.

Just try to respect the work we do in our free time, without any monetary compensation.
And to be true: We don#t need and want it as long as ppl are happy and say "Thank you" here and there.
But even without a thank you it is fun, as long as people don't write stuff like
I am really unimpressed that they break the trust between user and developer and take liberties with the game itself, adding quests etc.

Where do we break the "trust" if we just use code that is there, that is allowed to use and where noone on ZOS side nor on the users side complained about (except you)?

I am (and I bet I can speak for many addon authors here) very unhappy to read this and it will make me think about "investing my free time" again for addons, or for funny stuff ingame :-(

I bet you use some addons as well! Disable all of them and play without them, maybe you get the point afterwards :-)

There have been other complaints in-game that I've seen.

And, yes, it is most definitely a serious breach of trust. I write free software, too. And I would never put something like this in. Where it crossed the line is that lack of an indicator that it's fake. It's fine to throw in little jokes or things for fun. But always disclose to the user that it's not real (or make it so outrageous that nobody would think it's real), and disclose the source. The way in which these pranks were executed was inappropriate.
