Wondering if I could pick the brain of people who are actually good at the game :)

Been trying to do normal MA and cannot get past the first arena. I gave up after the 12th time of dying today. Today isn't even the first time I have tried to do it....

Anyways, wondering if something was wrong with my setup or if I just a bit useless. I can understand not being able to finish it, but not being able to finish the first arena at level 34 is a bit odd. My character is below. Was meant to be a Magic NB but I put some points into health and stam as I like to use the rapid movement in PVP. I have a Bow and a two-handed axe as weapons. I like to attack from distance from if they get too close I get the axe out.

Does anything seem overally off about my stats, given my levels? I am using a mixture of amour, but mainly blue medium. I accept I'm not very good but there is a difference between not very good and getting bested by round 1 :)

Thank you,

Focus focus focus. Your setup is a bit too hybridized. Focus stam as your race is redguard so it'd be ideal (although magicka is a bit more noob-friendly when it comes to the arena). If you plan to do MA then you at least need set bonuses. A full set of gear would be VERY cheap at your level so with your amount of gold you should be able to afford a new set. Try something that gives a balance of stamina, stam regen, and weapon damage...or perhaps even just straight-up damage. At your level there might also be some dropped sets you can use. EXPERIMENT! But sets are key.

Oh, also use 7 divines and/or infused medium armor, and a mundus stone such as Thief, Shadow, or Warrior to increase damage further.

For sets I'd recommend 5 Hunding's be in it on the body. Perhaps Night's Silence or Night Mother on the other 2 body pieces and weapons. All of that is crafted. Just use some jewelry you'd buy at a Mages' Guild Magus in the zone of your level. Make sure everything is enchanted with useful things. Increase weapon damage for the weapons, weapon damage regen or stam cost reduction on the jewelry, and all stamina on the armor.

So you're using stamina-based weapons on a magicka build.

    You have two options:
    - Use a destro staff / resto staff setup instead of 2H /bow
    - Become a stamina build instead (seems a better option with your race)

Also, whatever you choose, you really should use crafted set gear. Ask a friend or guildmate if your crafting is not high enough.

from what I can gather I would say you are still leveling up, based on the number of attribute points and gear values. You are missing out on set bonuses which add a great deal of help when doing VMA or regular MA. If you are still leveling I can also assume you don't have many skill points as you may not have spent time going through caldwels gold/silver quest areas. This would constitute a possible lack of valuable skills/passives unlocked which can also help you.

More info needed on gear would be helpful as well as number of skill points you have. It also looks like you are running a 2hr with most attribute points into magicka. 2hr uses stamina for most of the abilities so I can assume that you may be having stat regeneration issues as well.

MA/VMA is intended for specc's which are geared properly and have the skills/bonuses to complete it. I have a feeling that the setup you are using is well under par for taking on MA which is why you are dying a lot.

I would google some nightblade builds so you can see how you should spec your character. Deltia's gaming is a good beginner source to get more info on how to make an affective character.

thinking this is just a, and I don't mean this insultingly, learn-to-play issue.

@Valrien @Zerok Thanks for the feedback. to be honest I've little idea about set ups etc. I yern for the days when one could just pick up a game and have fun, rather than needing to study every minor detail. I want to play Zelda again. Knew where i was then. You equipment had a score, you found a higher score and then went on your way :)

I was initially using dual weld and a destruction staff but got bored of that. My previous character was sorcerer and I got bored of that so deleted it at level 46 and started again. I was playing too much like that with the build I had so I swapped weapons around. Am thinking that I need to redo my attributes though to more stam based.

It's not just MA i'm rubbish in. Am useless anything which is scaled - group finder instances and the DLC. I hold my own in PVP but I suspect I'm being carried more than I contribute.

You can't say your an ESO player until you have dodge rolled off of something while in combat and died.

MA is probably one of the hardest Dungeons in the game, not impossible, but it is designed for players that have done most of the other content and want a challenge. So, keep that in mind. You have gotten some good advice in this thread, the biggest takeaways you need are focus your attributes, use morphs that support that focus, and get some set gear to enhance your resource management and damage.

    Or, just wait until later....

One other thing to note, your in a Battle Leveling situation. The level of improvement on your gear has an impact on this. So, make sure your gear is Improved. The downside is, your leveling and you will leveled out of your gear in just a few hours. So, I would not go more than Blue at this stage simply because any more would be a waste.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

That's gear and build related. Scaling is related to your gear so if your gear sucks it's going to be even worse when you get scaled to v15. Try going on Tamriel Foundry (and as much as I hate to admit it...Deltia's site. His endgame builds are horrible but he has good info and advice for new players).

What I like about Deltia is he makes me think about how to combine things in different ways to get more out of what I am doing. I don't follow his builds, but I do get ideas from his on how to do things on my builds.

Thanks for the help all. I'll redo my attribute points into stamina, away from magic. I guess I'll skip this for now and come back when i'm a higher level - although have been saying that since level 10 hehe.

On a side nice, when I did try this as my sorcerer a while back, I got to round 6. I think that was mainly due to my randomly flying thing and dragon thing (had the game about 18 months, I should probably know what they are called by now) doing most of the damage while i pressed random buttons and generally tried not to die. The combat seemed easier with them but must less fun as I was a passenger in my own game
