Heavy Armor?

Hi,

Started playing in Beta and really liked the ES lore and graphic style. Stopped playing shortly after launch since stam builds were so bad. From ESO I want immersion and I want to make a char that is a "full warrior" and uses as less magic as possible. Now that stam builds are somewhat viable I have come back and the final problem I have is heavy armor.

Can you actually play this game on a reasonable level with a sword & board heavy armor guy if you want to do something else than tanking? I mean that is the ultimate warrior for me and that is what I would like to play. Ofc I can go two hander, but that doesnt give me the optimal enjoyment.

I think Im pretty happy at the situation of full stamina builds at the moment, but is Heavy Armor anything more than a tanking thing and that it looks cool?

For pve heavy armour is fine, sure you won't kill anything as fast as a medium armour user but thats the trade off.

Just go 5 heavy/2 medium

For regular PvE questing zones, heavy armor/sword and board on a non-tank should be fine. But if you want to do dungeons and such, you'll be ill suited for damage.

For non vet content you can pretty much do whatever you want but a heavy armor 1h and shield user trying to dps wont be on par to make it through endgame content

Also you should note that the next update (Dark Brotherhood) is meant to be bringing another pass of changes to heavy armour. This was according to Wrobel on the last ESO Live.

Neither Sword and Board and Heavy Armor are good for a stamina damage dealer. They're fine for leveling but if you wanted to do group dungeons, trials etc., not so much.

heavy armor are just ok for pve nothing more medium armor is so much better , is got any reason too use heavy now any
heavy= always be short in stamina and heavy have useless passive . all melee use medium , and tank also because the better stamina regen , and for pvp heavy total fail because all armor penetration , over the last 2 1/2 year heavy is garbage
that why a most anyone use it

These things are kind of true, but are misleading.

@KTLeander In theory, heavy armor dps seems fine. In practice, heavy armor DPS builds fall very short of the completion standards for trials.

We need to determine your play style before any helpful advice can be given. I presume we're talking exclusively PvE here, given the OP and subsequent posts. Do you intend to be competitive in trials? Are you mostly a solo player (more casual) or do you like to get speed challenges, hard-mode clears, and grind dungeons/pledges for loot and achievements? Or do you spend more time exploring, gathering, crafting, questing, etc?

A more casual play style means that you can do this if you want to. But wearing heavy armor as a dps is a double-negative: you give up a great deal of damage potential and sustainability by using it instead of Medium Armor. Heavy armor awards nothing in terms of practical use for a damage role. The best you can do to offset the hits you will take to recovery, crit chance, and weapon damage is through the use of a crafted set like Hundings. Even now people are using Hundings in a medium armor setup for a damage role, and many, many people will not complete some of the endgame content without a lot of practice and higher quality gear.

I've been making the argument in favor of heavy armor warriors since our first trial was released, so I'm with you on this topic. the unfortunate truth is that it's not going to work well in most cases, unless you're simply exploring, questing, and overall playing casually (which is okay too). If you'd like to incorporate some heavy into your build, I would recommend a maximum of 2 heavy pieces, because you don't want to forego the 5set medium passives.

If you want to "look" as a heavy armor warrior, you can take 2 pcs of heavy armor (cuirass/greaves/helmet) and 5 of medium.

There are some HA sets that allow you to get nice bonus on 2 or 3 pcs such as Crest of Cyrodiil or Dreugh King Slayer

Saddly no HA is even started to get out class for tanking by the other 2 armor types because of damage shields and the CP. AS for stamina builds thanks to magicka users crying and whining they got nerfed with TG patch.

Long story short tanks are in a bad spot now and HA is nearly useless thanks to DPS players crying how tanks were too tanky.

Thanks for the answers. I actually tanked my first dung yesterday and really liked it. The difficulty was so refreshing compared to many popular mmos today.

Ill go tank with my char and level medium armor and 2h for dps purposes. Stamina tank and Stamina dps...with some skills used from the class tree.

If you want to just look like you're wearing heavy armour then there are Veteran costumes (and possibly medium armour styles) which can give that affect. You'll still have the aesthetics of heavy armour without losing any of the damage benefits of medium armour.
