I can't revive on spot, possibly problem with the Soul Summons perk

When I die atm I can't revive on the spot. I got 258 full soulgems and the soul summons perk but the button just doesn't respond. I have tried on another character that didn't have soul summons yet and had no problems. This causes me to backtrack a lot whenever I die.
I would try and respec to remove it but it feels so wrong to pay gold to remove a feature. I have tried removing all my soulgems and relying 100% on the perk but it makes no difference. Also disabled all addons etc. Makes no difference.
