Would this computer be worth buying?

Processor: Intel i7-6700K 4GHz quad core
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX970 4GB GDDR5
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Hard drive: 500 GB

The storage seems a bit puny, but the other specs sound okay. The price is $1700 or thereabout.

Well. assuming that's a 7200 rpm hard drive the specs are pretty nice. I shudder at the price, since I know I could build that for about 5-600 cheaper. However, depending on your location and your tech skills that may not be an option for you. Are you buying this from a website or a brick and mortar store?

*That rig would handle ESO easily, even at resolutions higher then 1920x1080 (the most common gaming resolution these days).

As @Elder_III stated, that system would definately run ESO very well but it is overpriced for a GTX 970 and only a 500 GB Hard drive.

if i have to be honest. upgrading for this game doesnt really ad much performence.

when this game just came out i was playing it on an outdated laptop and altough my new pc was on the higher end of specs 1.5 years ago it didnt really ad much performence.

if you look further into it than you can see that there are even people with multiple titan cards and the beefiest cpu and their performance is almost the same as what i have.

on the other hand. those specs are nice.. altough an ssd is quite a nice thing to have.
+ ive heard that there is a new nvidia gpu comming (not sure. havent looked into it) so maybe if you wait a bit.. those cards that are on the market now might end up a bit cheaper.

and what the poster above said. you can get that setup for a much cheaper price.

If you're even somewhat mechanically inclined, you can put one together yourself from components that would be equivalent for half the price.

Let's call the computer in my original post Computer #1. I've found another.

    Computer #2.

Processor: Intel i7-6700K 4GHz quad core
    RAM: 16 GB DDR4 2133MHz
    Video Card: NVIDIA GTX970 4GB GDDR5
    OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

The specs on #2 are similar to those of #1, except the hard drive is twice as big, and there's that "solid state" thingy, whatever that is. Flash?

    US$?

Seems a bit high price wise. 3-400 for i7 6700, 3-400 for gtx 970, 200 for Mb, 150 for ram, 150 for ssd. If you have a copy of win 7 + you get 10 for free. So should be only $1100-$1300 if you go off amazon.

I assume you have a case, monitor, mouse and keyboard etc...

But yes that is an excellent set up.

Due to the so called "Market Efficiency" and the demand for the rapidly evolving and ever-changing computer hardware capabilities. most state-of-the-art PC's/Laptops will cost about the same: anywhere from $1,600-2,000.
Ive gone through two Asus Republic of Gamer Laptops already, and each cost the same, for a substantial increase in power.
I will probably purchase the third circa 2018 at this rate, if the company continues the product line and good ol' Moore's law holds true.

Though what I will do with 64GB of Ram, Ive really no idea.
Probably run a dozen virtual machines like I do now.

    I5 3.10GHz
    2TB HD
    8GB RAM
    GTX 650 1GB

This has run the game on high since Beta. Few stutters, Cyrodiil lag but that's not just me.

As of Friday it'll have an SSD and a GTX 970 in it. That's costing me less than it probably should. But still, PC Gaming doesn't have to cost $1600.

Seems OK, but for a bit more you could go for a high-end GPU (e.g. 980ti). I just built a new system and the main differences relative to yours are the GPU and 2x 250 GB SSD (one m.2, one SATA). Don't bother with HDD unless you need LOTS of storage. Even then it's a good idea to go for an SSD for the OS and more demanding software. Research your SSD carefully, there's lots of crap out there - still better than an HDD, but the performance difference can be significant between brands. Right now, the Samsung EVO or PRO are very hard to beat.

Personally, I'd get an i5 processor instead of an i7 and save a couple of hundred bucks right there. The lions share of the work is done by the GPU, and the extra hyperthreading offered by the i7 isn't noticeable. My i5 CPU never goes above 30-40% while gaming.

Secondly, get an SSD - you will not regret it. The only reason to have a mechanical hard drive is for storage space. My PC has both - SSD for speed and a 1TB drive for mass storage and crap that I rarely use.

You might also want to look into a Radeon card instead of nVidia. Religious wars aside, Radeons are generally cheaper and every bit as fast as nVidia. I have the Radeon R9 290X and it is absolutely blazing. No lag in ESO, anywhere, ever.

Do you participate in PVP a lot? It seems to be quite a bit more demanding on the CPU than the PVE areas. My understanding is even high end PCs with i7-5820K and 980Ti drop down around 30-40fps in large PVP battles at 1080p. Weaker systems (like mine) drop much lower.

No that price is a ripoff. You should only have to spend maybe around $1000ish for that set up, maybe even slightly less nowadays sice 970's can be found with some decent deals. If you go for a prebuilt then $1100-$1200ish

Also 500 GB's is just horrible. The OS is going to take a decent chunk of space already. Even a lone 1 TB drive is starting to be to little, games are just huge now.

    Anywanys, definatly a no buy.

Your second choice is a definatly better and more reasonably equipped for the price, but it still could be slightly over priced, but that's how it is when you go for a pre built.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (This is getting upgraded very very soon to 980. (960 does a fantastic job but it doesn't seem to capture the awesome textures on say cloth or armour, close up, in the way that the 980 does)

http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p616/Toxxo1/ESO/Screenshot_20160308_114308.png - click the link then click the magnifying glass above the picture.

Windows 10 64bit. Installed on a Samsung 500gb SSD. Also got a 1tb HDD for pic, music vids and other games.

    16gb DDR4 RAM

    Z170A Gaming M5 Motherboard

Intel Core i5 6600k @ 3.50ghz overclocked to 4.60ghz (Wasn't going to spend an extra £150 for a totally negligable, minimal performance boost)

    Asus monitor @ resolution 2560 x 1080

This runs ESO at around 70fps (yes, even with the 960) on ultimate settings. It drops to around 50fps in heavy fighting and anything from 1fps to 60 fps in heavy fighting in Cyrodiil (but everyone knows that that place has a mind/physics of its own LOL). The rig was built with plenty of room for upgrading - the new gfx card is coming soon and I'll put the memory up to 36gb.

If you are going to get a new rig - do NOT buy a pre-built one. If you build your own you will save a ton of money. There are loads of vids on Youtube that show you how to do it. :)
