Extremely minor spoiler below about the first few minutes of the Wrothgar quest-line:
At the very outset of the Wrothgar quest-line, you learn of a new king which supports abandoning the worship of Malacath and in his place worshiping Trinimac. Within the capital city, Trinimac is worshiped by reasonable a peaceable people, who are portrayed as good guys and friends to your character. As you explore Wrothgar, you will find a sect of Trinimac called the Vosh Rakh, who are militant in their views on Trinimac, desiring to destroy the old Orc way of life, the path a Malacath.
My observation is that this seems reminiscent of a certain real world religion, or at least, western media's portrayal of a certain real world religion. At times during the quest dialogue and writings, I found some of the similarities glaringly apparent. If these similarities are coincidental, I would be very surprised, though I grant that it is possible, albeit through the sub-conscious.
If this is the case, then it seems that the story line is making some definitive statements concerning religion, ethics, and morality. I personally don't mind that this is being done, but I am known to be insensitive at times, so I ask, are these parallels fair game? Is ZoS venturing into dangerous territory by such assertions? Does the inclusion of such elements add a reasonable realism to our gameplay?
I would be particularly interested in hearing from someone who comes from an Islamic perspective.
Thanks!
