Is it better to start afresh?

After help form these forums, I have been able to Center my 3rd person camera on my PS4. I'm really enjoying the game now. I did try PS4 when it 1st launched but the over the shoulder camera, combined with how much worse the graphics were compared to PC (which I used to play it on) stopped me dead.

Now I have not played for long enough to forget how good it looked on PC, lol.

Controls were fiddly at first, but crewing a new character has helped massivly with that. Speaking of which, I do have a VR9 that I porter over. Now this is my issue.

My VR9 has hundreds of skill points, has all the profs maxed out, can make all the sets, has dozens on champion points. In short it's optimised up the wazoo.

One of the things I have always enjoyed most in MMO's is getting drops and using them. I do remember that the professions were such in this game that crafted gear was the best and it made drops redundant. So I have already decided to not use any profs at all and get some of that joy back from drops.

I am aware that this will make me a bit weaker, but I'm a mechanics player, so I can deal with that.

I'm seeing that new content scales you to it, unless you are already very high, in which case I'm hearing content is trivial, as the characters are optimised.

Do people feel that being optimised actually makes the content too easy? What CP are they scaled for?

I'm tempted to stick with my new character, even though I now have the controls down. I would have many many less skill points, would not have all the sky shards (I would probably stick to one factions content only, be gone foul Silver and Gold, did you 3 times, never again).

How have others dealt with moving over, have they started afresh? Did they use those VR maxed characters and then find the content too easy?

Heck I'm even tempted to not spend a single CP.

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers

ive deleted dozens of characters and started over everytime i would quit and return to the game....

right now i have 0 VR16 chars cuz i deleted my last one (and only that was on VR16).. ive made it ti VR3 again since i started playing again this time...and thats the way i keep game fresh until its in a reaaaaly good position and for me its going to be there probably with DB or U11....

i think im gonna stick to this one, and do alot of Alts to get em to 50 and prepare for DB VR removal.

I didnt move so I cant help you in that way but here is my input:

I got a bit bored of playing with my main character once I reached VR1... I dont even know the reason behind it to be honest, it just felt like doing everything the same again but with a different landscape, or I simply got bored of my templar build, but changing the skills would lead nowhere as I am not into close combat style of fighting with the aedric spear etc, and also I just finished the main story so I didnt really know what was there left in PvE, and I wasnt too excited to find out either...
I will still keep her, because after all she was my first character, but I might not go on lv her up.

But because I absolutely love how the game looks, and I enjoy playing it, I decided to create a new character, a sorceress, she became a vampire at lv 17, and I am having more fun much earlier than I ever did with my templar, leveling faster than I ever did with the other one, and I think she will become my main character from now on!

Sometimes starting fresh is not a bad thing! :)

You have 8 character slots, so alt away! Keep your main as he has the crafting skills, and if you feel like playing him, do so.

I also find that a combination of crafted and dropped sets works really well, as dropped sets may come with jewelry and allow you more flexibility (and possibly 2 5-piece bonuses).

When leveling, I'm a bit of an "anything goes" player as I'll slot skills I need to level and they don't necessarily work too well with what I already have. I also come up with gear combos that are not "meta", which is why my level 30 sorc will soon be running around with 5 piece Syrabane's Grip and 5 piece Morkuldin. :-P

Yeah I think that old chestnut of VR removal is nagging away at me. Makes it feel like anything above 50 is kind of pointless, just makes you too powerful to enjoy any DLC, since that will all scale.

Then again VR has been "being removed" for what 18 months now and still no closer to it.

    umm its confirmed...

In Dark Brotherhood, veteran ranks will be removed. Instead we will use 160CP as a way to use our Rubedite Gear..

Which means all ALTs need to get only to lvl50 and then you are already as strong as your main, because CP's are accountwide.

You see that's the problem. I'm actually very very good at games, always have been. I'm just accepting that I'm higher skill than the content is aimed at and dialling back my min maxing. So far it's making things more enjoyable.

Since I have been away for ages, I'm going to do Orsinium, which seems great unless you are min maxed, then it seems face roll. I want to enjoy that. I know there is the solo arena for me to bite into if I ever feel like min maxing again. But since all DLC will scale to you, I don't want to not enjoy that content.

Hmm maybe use my main for actual hard stuff if I get bored and a non maxed character for new content.

You gave me something to think about anyway.

If you want more of a challenge and using drops then you should not use your champion points or your high level crafter. Making green set gear on lower levels along with blue quality weapons basically trivializes the content if you have some skill with you class. You can solo every dolman and every world boss, plus you can solo every public dungeon including the bosses/group events.

Have to agree with u, I have played so many characters its not even funny, like 5 NB, 5 sorcs, 3 templars, 6 dragonknights, and prob more then that.

I missed the opportunity to transfer my PC character over to the xbox, cause my account was hacked during the 1 month period we had, and had to start over on the xbox.

Im alot like u, I want to just play around till they remove V ranks, and the game is better.

1 thing I have recently done is start a character on the Aldimeri Dominion side, and im enjoying the new story, and areas to explore, cause for some reason it took me this long to try that side out =)

I disagree, but ESO for the PC has built in controller support now. It's been enabled since Orsinium I believe.

There is challenging content in the game, like vMA and soon to be vMOL, which is aimed at the min/max demographic and if you have yet to complete it, I wonder why you would say the game is too easy/boring. You have a v9, which is not "optimized" for this content and would require significant playing to achieve "optimization". Personally, IMO this is where you should be pursuing a challenge. The point is that there is content in this game where even with v16 min/maxed characters there is a challenge.

The zone quests however are designed so players can sit back and RP, "smell the flowers" and/or explore, not for challenging a players skill. I suggest simply enjoying the any new DLC storyline, because well that's why it's there, for the story, not the "challenge". Since you feel adamant about experiencing the quests for each new dlc and making it a "challenge" for funzies, then I think it obvious that you need to remove CPs, start a new character, use your fists, eat pizza with one hand while playing, etc etc to make that happen.

I personally accept these quests as not intended for my demographic, which boils the entirely of Wrothgar DLC down to a glorified crafting table and a single arena, and the thieves guild DLC to a single Trial. However, this is where the intended challenges lie, so I'm content with that.

Just remember you can always start a new toon, take gear off, or remove cps, but the opposite is not possible....you can't magically make cps or gear appear, you have to work for those first. So IMO, work towards maxing a character first and then remove these things until you get your challenge.

Since I'm comming back in, I wanted to experience Orsinium for the first time in a fun way, without steamrolling it. I take what you say onboard and have hit a compromise. I have reset my VR9 champ points and I'm not going to spend them, till I want to min max again. I'm also getting rid of all my crafted set gear.

This should make Orsinium a bit more fun, while making drops feel rewarding again. It is nice to have 160 inventory slots and a max speed mount. Those I did miss on my alt.

    Thanks for the input all

Heck I'm even tempted to not spend a single CP.

    Any advice would be welcome.

Why do you have to get rid of the VR9? Keep them as a crafter to pimp out your new alts. You can park them at a crafting station and use them as a mule to hold all your equipment crafting mats. Put your Alchemy and Provisioning Mats in the bank as those are easy to level on Alts.

As for not spending the CPs, I would agree that it would make for a more challenging game play. I did notice when the champ system first came out, mobs were a lot tougher than they were before. Once I gained another 100 points, on top of the initial allocation of something like 70 or whatever it was, then the mobs stopped being such a pain. Once I gained another 100 points, the mobs started getting easy.

So, keep your Main, respec them as a crafter and with limited combat so that they can farm, and go to town with Alts. Only invest champ points if you feel the need to.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
