Returning player was "thinking" about Healing Templar..

..until I read all this stuff about them being screwed over?

Besides that. I did want to know 2 things:

1. Is light armour considered a "must" for healers? (PvP/PvE)

2. Is a Resto staff also considered a "must" for healing?

I kind of wanted to be heavy armour/sword & board..but Only for MY survival..so I can stick around longer to heal more.

What's the general consensus nowadays?

#1 - Generally speaking yes because you want to get the magicka-related bonuses, but, I'm sure there are people who have heavy armor healer builds. I would check over at Tamriel foundry. A lot of theorycrafting goes on there.

#2 - For Templars, no, not absolutely essential, but it can be helpful. I would recommend using one.

Pve templars actually are better healers now since they get 25% on resto staff too. Personally i tend to use more resto than templar heals anw.
And u can make heavy armor work but thats only if u want to be more tanky in pvp.

but now you have to stand still to heal effectively

and if you stand still you die

plus it's not fun to stand still. It's supposed to be action combat afterall.
End the tedious inventory management game.

    1. Go 5 Light, 1 medium, 1 heavy for the Undaunted Mettle passive and make the chest heavy. It gives you the "heavy armor" look.

    2. No, but it's handy. Heavy resto attacks give good magicka return. But at level 15 you can weapon swap and have resto on one bar and sword and shield on the other (that's what my templar does in PvP).

Wait till next patch to make your decision since Templar heals are getting nerfed and I don't mean a little.

    Funny, I'd have said
    1. No
    2. Yes

With enough magicka regeneration and heavy resto staff attacks, you can keep your magicka up easily in most group content that you don't have to run light armor as a healer.
On the other hand, Combat Prayer from the resto staff skill line is pretty much mandatory as a healer. And for PvP you'll want Healing Ward. There's really no upside to using anything but a resto staff as a healer.
