I hate feeling like I'm missing something basic, and ya'll set me to ease on this.

I appreciate the answers.//

Where do the points go, besides showing the date I got them in my achievement journal?

I mean - they seem to do no good, or make no difference, to my score or level, so why '5 points'?

I allows as how I'm missing something fundamental, and all, but why 5 points?
It could be 407,395 for all the good it does (or doesn't seem to) do me.

I'm not the pointiest pointer in the pointer drawer, so could someone please point out what I missed?

Thanks for the help.

Most of the game achievements are tied to the armor dye colors. The more achievements you complete, the more colors that will be available to dye your armor with. Other than that, it's all bragging rights.

Achievements all have a point value and can be associated with additional rewards such as titles, dye colors, pets, etc. The one for opening 1000 chests does not grant these additional benefits. It just goes to your total achievement score. Currently this score itself does not grant additional benefits, it simply exists.

Yep, achieves are either for dyes, character titles or bragging rights.

I suspect it's simply because that's how achievements are done.

I can't remember seeing a game that had achievements and didn't assign some type of score to them. In some cases like with Xbox or Steam achievements you can combine your scores from different games. In the vast majority of games it doesn't mean anything, it's just an added incentive for some people to do achievements they wouldn't otherwise bother with in order to get a higher total score.

The only game I played where it wasn't arbitrary was Guild Wars 2 where for every 1000 points you get a few random items and a bit of free gold. But that was only added about a year in after players kept on asking for something to do with their points, and I think that only happened because the confusing UI made it look like it was a currency you could spend.

Dyes and titles are tied to achievements themselves, not to points. Points are completely useless.
