Group dungeon 'Rolls' mechanics

(PS4) hi its been months since i done undaunted dailies and probably was at vr1 at the most.
Basically you didnt have to think about it, just weigh in.
Read someones post there about getting the group one shotted by boss. and someone else commented did he get the rolls right.
Question is how does this work: are the rolls allocated by the group owner, or does each player pick a roll or rolls, is it automatic e.g. if your a templar your roll will be a healer?
Is there a buff, bonus for each roll?

No, you build your character for a role; Tank, DPS or healer. and you play your role in the group content.

yeah and it is not unheard of for a DPS to que as a tank for instant grouping tanks are rare especially those that can tank.

Yup. If people aren't honest about what roles they can and can't do, it can screw up the PUG. I've got one character who queues as all 3 because I've got him set up so that I can swap my gear & skill bars to a DPS setup or a healer setup or a tank setup. I've got other characters where I wouldn't dream of queuing as anything other than a DPS because they can't even attempt to do the other roles without a complete respec.

Did my first pug the other day. Every tank we got wasn't a tank. A Stam Sorc without at least one bar of S&B, no taunt and not even using shields. A Heavy Armor resto staff DK (that's all he ran) and "that guy" who set his role for faster queue pops.

Yup. If people aren't honest about what roles they can and can't do, it can screw up the PUG. @UrQuan you do know that can screw up the grouping tool and leave you with incomplete groups right?

Yes. For example, if you select tank as your role, you better have a taunt, and not be super squishy. If you select healer as your role, you better be prepared to heal the whole group. You can dps too, that's fine. But your first priority should always be the role you signed up for.

They need things in place to prevent people from lieing... there also shouldn't be multiple choices since people rarely do the roll the finder tells them they were picked for... say I am picked for tank and someone else went tank and dps but was chosen as dps... makes the dungeon much slower when he's trying to take k the mobs as well

Yeah, that's why there's stat- or gear checks in other MMORPG's. Basically if you dont have a certain amount of defence, you can't queue as tank. While healers need certain amount of spell power(or equivalent attribute), to pick that role.

But implementing a system like that is probably not a main priority for ZoS and awfully complicated. How would it interact with Battle Leveling for example? Also, the game has way bigger issues right now than some guy lying about his role. There's a quick fix for it anyway, kick him from the group.

While I would agree that it isn't the most pressing issue, seeing as not even top issues are being fixed in a reasonable timeframe... might as well complain about this anyways
