Cosmetic Crown Store Motifs

So here's a quick one. ZOS should sell Cosmetic Motifs in the Crown store. These Motifs would allow players to convert armor to that specific style in the exact same way those with the Imperial Edition can convert to Imperial Style.

Ideally, these would not be the same motifs that are used for crafting. Personally... I would like this to be how costumes are handled in the future. Then they would even be dyable.

Pretty solid. Do you think this system would easily be able to account for your armor stats in the same way as the costumes do now? Agree that it makes dyeing the costumes seem feasible.

Well @CJohnson81 , it would technically be the same armor... you would just be changing the style. The stats would stay exactly the same.

This is why I wouldn't think ZOS would release Cosmetic Motifs for existing Crafting Motifs. IF they did that there would be no point in getting crafting motifs since you could just convert any armor to that new style.

I'm just wondering if there's enough content to release Crafting Motifs, Costumes, AND Crown Store Motifs.... I would personally prefer if they just expanded costumes to include this feature. You can go to your Costume tab and wear the base costume OR you can convert your armor to that costume's style. You could then mix and match costume pieces. Polymorphs and skins wouldn't work this way, obviously.

This would be fantastic, could even make it require a style material, like laurels for mercenary and deadra heart for deadric etc...

Edit: I think (as OP said as well) the problem lies mostly with styles that can't be crafted. I had a Vosh Rak chestpiece drop, but since outlevelled it. But it's so pretty! You know what I mean. I don't wanna trash it, but I can't keep using it forever. Grinding for the next or scouring guild stores are my only options.

I'd personally like some system where you can combine two pieces and choose which style, trait, set bonuses and level you keep, with a cost attached that is greater if there's a larger level difference. This safeguards the economy, because people still will want to attain their preferred style and sets etc., but makes it less dependable on that one lucky drop. They could turn this into a Blacksmithing/Woodworking/Clothier skill too! And then have your Crown Store idea as an alternative option. SeemsGood to me!

What if deconning a craftable had a chance to drop the motif to build it? Really, what we are asking for is a more dynamic crafting solution. How can one become a master crafter and not be able to emulate an armor that they see, but with the specs that they chose?

I just went through the Thizzrini Arena and got all those cool looking shoulders. Unfortunately, they are all useless to me. Does ZOS have something against dropping heavy armor? I know, it's not an ideal build, but I went with light armor in the last two ES games and I wanted to try something completely different.

I would absolutely love the ability to decon an item for its style and some mats, and then with an additional mat burn, be able to recraft it in a heavy style (even if it looks slightly different because it's got heavier plate).

Edit: Sorry that was kinda off topic. Maybe costumes and clothes should go back to the way they were - individual pieces with zero armor points. However, it would stink to have them in our limited inventories. I like the way we can have a costume, but still be armored. It's a nice convenience.

So the sole purpose of this would be to dye costumes then. If that's the only way ZOS could make it work to dye costumes then I'm all for it.

So instead of buying the "costume" your buying the ability to convert armor into a "Jester" outfit. Then you could dye each piece. This would be really interesting and would allow people to create different looks with different costume pieces as they aren't limited to the entire costumed look.

I guess it is a question of how those untypical sets, which drop are implemented. It is not said, that they funnction in the same way as craftable armor sets. Converting different craftable armor sets should be simple to implement, because it might just be a change of the reference variable in the armor piece data. For untypical sets there might not be such a reference, because they were not intended to be something else. Same goes for costumes, I doubt that those have the required dye slots and so they would have to be changed in a major way in order to be able to dye them.

    Edit:

Just to give an idea why that is most likely like that - a costume with a certain color scheme has a pre-baked texture, which can directly be used. A dyed set requires to create the texture individually (bake it) in order to use it and it's visual data has to be transferred to any player, who can look at it.
