Guild traders suggestion

Just a suggestion:

I was thinking it might be nice for there to be a main auction board in each factions capital cities which has a database of all the current items on every guild trader.

It shouldn't allow you to purchase or sell from there, but should give you the option to search for a specific item and tell you where the guild trader(s) are which have this item for sale.

This means that there would still be the realism aspect of actually having to travel to that trader, but it would be more efficient and convenient, rather than just wandering around and not really knowing what's where.

There's got to be an easier way to find the items I'm looking for... I dunno how this would effect prices or bids on traders, but I'd be all for this idea.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

I disagree mainly because it wouldn't address the main problems with the guild trader system which needs either to be more drastically overhauled for both sellers and buyers so that everyone can participate in it, or else to be replaced with some other trading system (not necessarily an auction house - and certainly not an auction horse which was only ever intended as a joke that wore thin many months ago  ).

Tinkering at the edges for buyers wouldn't help, and in any event what's the point of enabling players to locate items they want only to realise that they're situated in zones they cannot access? Once again the guild trader system is shown to be really only of any real use to high level characters when an effective trading system should be open to all. This will become even more of a problem when the growing content and removal of veteran levels reduces the number of people doing Cadwells.

What kind of system were you thinking?

Some form of auction house is obviously one idea, probably regional rather than global, but I'd favour any kind of trading system that allowed everyone to have access to it as both buyers and sellers without locking it behind artificial barriers such as level, alliance, or guild membership.

My own personal preference, however, would be to improve the present system so as to open it up to all sellers by having a single trader in each main trader location that would be open to non-guild members or those belonging to guilds that hadn't got a trader, with a substantially higher level of commission charged, which commission would be divided between the guilds trading in that location. The maximum number of items a player could list at such a trader could be limited if required, so as to cater primarily for casual traders.

For buyers, I would introduce a proper search facility available at any trading location. Players would be able either to visit the individual trader to collect the item for free or else to pay a significant delivery charge to have it sent to them in the mail. They would therefore be able to find the items they want quickly and would be able to access them regardless of their level or alliance.

Such a change would enable every player to participate in the economy while preserving the present guild-based trading structure. However, I'm perfectly open to any ideas that provide a trading system that is open to all.

Yea, I really think the "solution" to the guild trader problem (if there IS a problem) is to have the guild trader's inventory consolidated in one location. That way we don't just make guild traders obsolete.

I like the idea of a guild search (it's not a NEW idea... many people have suggested it before) that requires the player to travel to the guild trader... there is one major problem with this, however. It would result in pretty much the same issue we would have with an auction house. Any player that views an item will obviously go buy the cheapest items... who will these people most likely be? Other traders. They will buy up the stock and they will just drive the prices up because they can easily see the prices in one convenient location.

My idea (Auction Horse) would also preserve the guild traders and would allow players to search multiple guilds at once, but those guilds would have to "sign up" and the prices would be a bit more stable because we would have a bartering system in which players could offer sellers lower than their asking price. Of course, this could still have the problem with buyers buying up all the stock and jacking up the price... the difference is, the Auction Horse would be less convenient to find, less convenient to access and if it wasn't available every day, wouldn't be as easily abused.

Bottom line... if they enhance the trading system at all... it MUST be in support of the guild traders and not in lieu of the guild traders.
