Stop trying to level and play the game.

For you new players...

Ignore the threads from whiners...You can do whatever you want. Grind, dungeon run, play PvP, run around and read every book you see, talk to everyone in town, pickpocket guards, punch citizens in the face, pick flowers and sell them, pick flowers and don't sell them and just sit on stacks and stacks like the rest of the hoarders in the game, pick flowers and just eat them all, turn into a werewolf and terrorize an entire town, join five trade guilds and set up a potion factory, go treasure hunting and actually read the maps (using your eyes, not Google), do writs, complain about how you got nothing from the writs, run through Crag and take on every mob solo, go on a hunting and fishing expedition by shooting critters for small game and guts and afterward fishing the lakes.

The second you stop trying to get "there" (*cough* end game *cough*) and just be "here"... the game becomes much more entertaining.

My thoughts exactly. I see lots of threads with vets complaining about their fifth trip through Caldwell's or their 30th hour in Cracked Wood Cave, but not a lot of new players complaining that they can't run vWGT on their first day playing.

I'm running my third vet. That's when it feels grindy, but if you slow down and don't try to grind it out and just have fun, then there is no grind to begin with. It works for noobs and especially vets. Just my opinion.

Well, grinding may be a state of mind for you, but for me it's the act of slowly accumulating 13 million XP by repeating the same faceroll content the fourth or fifth time over. To each his own I guess.

I support this post. Most of the game is about that, where those, who are into reaching the endgame as soon as possible, are rushing through without to have seen anything really. All the beauty of the landscape, crafted with passion by the Devs, is basically lost on them, they do not appreciate it, burn through the content like it would be tinder, force themselves to endless grinding and in the end, when they are finally where they wanted to be at, they are complaining about that the game would have a too low difficulty level. But it is them really, who make it that way, with their absurd rush to the endgame.

No, that's the point. If you play this way, there IS NO ENDGAME, and that's good. My vet 16 is all gold blah blah blah. But now I'm having more fun than ever by doing all the stuff I rushed past to "get to endgame." Fishing in Cyrodiil while looking over my shoulder and listening to the sounds in the game, looking for skyshards I missed by actually thinking about the clue phrase instead of going to the internet, listening to the townsfolk or reading the books on shelves...I'm not saying doing the same content is just as exciting the second time, but if it's that boring, then do something else. Or just think about the story a second time. Haven't you ever read a book twice?

Yes, to each their own. I'm jut saying if you slow down and find your own game, it's more enjoyable.

Having no end-game in an MMO is just AWFUL. The genre is built around longevity. If there's nothing to do, no goals, people will stop playing. The only thing that could even be considered end-game (and the devs original plan for end-game) is Cyrodil PvP, and that is plagued with the worst performance problems I've ever seen. People are leaving/unsubbing because there's nothing to do, and the one thing there is to do is broken.

I get it's a nice break to 'stop and smell the roses' every once in a while, but that's not the kind of thing that keeps people playing.

EDIT: The worst part about it is, I don't think they care. Their business model now with B2P and the cash store is to get new people in with a low entry cost, advertise and incentivize the hell out of the cash store...... and that's about it. They'll release some DLC here or there for $20, but mainly to make items in the cash store more of an incentive. The game will be F2P within 1-2 years from now to bring in the people that wouldn't pay the box cost.

None of that relies on people sticking around. Nothing revolves around keeping people involved with end-game content, so why would they waste their resources on it?

Anyone who complains about Cadwell's quest and the need for them are folks that clearly skipped through the content and have no comprehension of the story they have been dropped into.

That said not everyone comes here for the story or to play an Elder Scrolls game and that is fine, just realize that is the game you chose to play. Skip the quests if you wish, Akatosh knows I do on the 4th and 5th time through, but new folks that show up because of the title should enjoy the game for what it is their first time through and worry about leveling and whatnot after completing it.

I still think the game is setting itself up for a second round of PvP (probably in its 3rd year) for Tamriel vs The Forces of Oblivion. I personally hope this is true, being able to play the enemy races, that would be cool, not to mention it would mean opening up an Oblivion map expansion at some point as well.

I don't play video games for "beautiful landscapes". I play video games for gameplay and/or story. ESO's story is OKAY the first time you go through it. It is subpar every other time after the first. Therefore, all that's left for me is gameplay. All things considered, despite my grievances, ESO does have enjoyable gameplay. However, it is only enjoyable in endgame pve and pvp.

I enjoy my both my v16 characters. They're nightblades. I'd love to level up a dk and experience the content from another class perspective. However, getting from vet1 to vet16 is just god awful without grinding. Maybe, if the content between those levels was interesting it'd be ok, but it's not.

I wish they took the swtor approach and had a different story for the 4 classes. That, combined with no vet ranks, would have provided a much more enjoyable experience imo.

This is what I have been doing in the game since launch. I just play. I do not have, and never will have, a Vet 16. In the last couple of weeks, I have been running for Vet 10 to get the Mannimarco costume, just in case that all goes away. Most of the time, I occupy my time just running around, levelling alts, crafting, farming mats, selling stuff.

It's what I've been doing since launch too. I've got a VR16 who still has a zone and a half to complete in Cadwell's Gold (and a VR15 who only has half a zone to complete in Cadwell's Gold) because I wander around and make sure I do every quest, find every location, complete every delve, etc before I leave a zone behind. I also spend a lot of time just tooling around having fun in occasionally stupid ways. If you do this long enough, you'll get to VR16 on one character or another (or vet ranks will go away first lol).

My first toon, I listened to all the dialog and did everything in a zone before moving on. My husband mocked me. I still have fun running around harvesting and finding chests.

My second toon, I'm click-click-clicking through the dialog and as soon as I finish the last bits of mages and fighter's guild leveling, forget those as well. But I still every now and then find one of the quests grabbing my attention. That's good content.

I may be a minority, but I actually think there's a lot of content to be experienced and that vet-leveling is not that impossible. Yes, it's a bit tedious but I'm not rushing through to it yet.

I have one main character now and focused most of my time on him, and he's already vet 13. I am about to finish Cadwell Silver (god, this thing takes longer after the initial run-through), have yet to complete my Undaunted skill line, just hit Tyro in the Alliance War (but again, I picked a deserted campaign, thus it's a little slow), have yet to complete every single dungeon to get its skill point, and I feel like there's still so much to do!

But again, I'm a completionist. I would like to achieve or acquire everything that can be done before hitting 'end game'.

As someone who has a couple vet characters and helps run a guild that recruits new players on a regular basis our guild chat is bombarded by people wanting crafted items sets because they think you have to have it to complete in lowbie pve even before having a 2nd weapon choice. Almost all the officers offer the same advice as the OP is here. Slow down, enjoy the lore and story. I even host a weekly raffle and trivia contest that concentrates heavily on lore and quest locations for the questions & answers. It really gets people thinking and has proven very popular.
End-game will come. And you can certainly fix any supposed mistakes you made in your build at that point.

No one arguing against VR is saying that you should buy the game and then rush to the end, most of us are just like you. It took me almost a year and a half to get my first max-level character, and in that time I did normal/silver/gold three times over and got two other characters to V1.

The people arguing against VR don't want to do it yet again.

I agree that people should just play. the grinding however, is very real. go look at the materials needed to craft vet16 gear- you have to grind to gather that much. wont someone think of all the fuzzy critters i murder for leather? 130 to 150 mats per piece crafted. and gods help you if you want more than one set.

i like to explore, and i solo a lot. so i slowly work through old public dungeons and world bosses as i level, and find where my limits change over time. i tend to hunt for achievements and titles. but the real 'fun' is in finding some cool people to play with. i may even help them with food, gear, or just pwn their missions for them so they can level.

right now, its dead simple to hit vet14. after that, it slows down a lot. i think thats where the 'grind' is, and that will change when vet levels are removed... the question is if it will be a net improvement for leveling a new chracter past 50.

No, I was just curious because the first time I played through the AD zones the first I noticed her was in Greenshade in the quests leading up to the Wilderking stuff. It wasn't until the next time that I played through the AD zones that I realized she was actually introduced back in Auridon, although you don't meet her there (because she has already left for Greenshade). The first time through I completely didn't clue in that she was the same person as the one I was trying to find in Auridon in the Final Blows quest.

I totally agree with this post the game is so much more FUN and entertaining "FortheloveofKrist" you hit the nail on the head .....AWESOME POST...
And best line...The second you stop trying to get "there" (*cough* end game *cough*) and just be "here"... the game becomes much more entertaining.
