Spell Editing Idea, by Daedxz

Hey maggots, Daedxz here. Been chillin, killin, you know me. Got an idea in me head so hear it out wont ya.

You know what really grinds me gears about TESO? The lack of player customization. Yes I said it, the lack. of. player. customization. I mean you make a game where the entire point of it is to do your own thing and to make your own spec and play through it how you want; yet even with all of that freedom we are enslaved to our own hypocrisy and nostalgia where every time you walk down the street you see the same class as you using spells and abilities that you also have and in some annoying cases a clone of what you run. It really grinds my gears.

Sooooo.... I was thinking and when I mean thinking I mean watching some adult content when an idea sprung into me head. Spellcrafting has been discussed and ZOS has said they are looking into it, so lets let them work on that for as long as they want cause thats not what I am getting at with this wee little idea of mine. I want to be able to change the color, and in some cases the weapon model (Puncturing Strikes) of my spells and abilities. So basically the ability to edit the look of my abilities.

This is how it would go in me head. You can take Puncturing Strikes for example, instead of a spear jabbing it shows a sword slashing, or an axe or mace. Then you can change the color from gold yellowish to a blood red or blue or green or whatever the hell you want it to be.

Just a thought, anyone else think of this?

Yes, although I wanted to expand on it and just make it spell editing of sorts. You really should be able to at the very least change the color but it would be sweet if you could change the shape and form of the spell and abilities as well.

Sounds a little pointless tbh. Just my opinion  I don't think ZoS has any plans to add weapon dyes let alone customised spells

We need more player customization and it starts on the spell level. Spell crafting most likely will never happen because of how badly it would unbalance the game. There is no conceivable way to manage a massively multiplayer online game when players have the ability to craft their own spells.

At the same time I miss merking you maggots so I say bring on the death and decay. Battle spirit just made it 50% harder for me to end all life; but add spell crafting... MUAHHAHAHAHA. Yet sadly that is not the point of this post so I will stop this rant.

Anyway... The big picture is the ability to change the color, shape, model, and in some cases aura of the spells and abilities. I believe this would add some visual customization for the game which is greatly needed.

    Dyes for anything is useless.However,a very fun thing to be able to do.It goes with character customization. Isnt it useless to have all the options and sliders for our characters?Would you rather there were none? Just curious,not being mean or anything. :}

Never said weapon dyes though, although that would add to the customization I guess.

I think adding more customisation to appearance (like with the barbershop) is better than editing abilities. That's just from a view point of everyone having a unique appearance though. Plus I can see people getting annoyed if people were spamming loads of differently set spells xD

Why is it better to add more customization to character building? I see you would like it.Others would like that the OP suggests too.Why say not as good an idea just because you might not be interested in it.Also, the tons of pets that are all over in the banks annoy the crap outta me,but I wouldnt want to take anything fun away from anyone. And if someone, rather enough people, would like to have dyes for spells it shouldnt bother anyone who doesnt want ithem. They just dont have to use the dyes.Keep their spells vanilla. The colors wont change the spell effects. The different way the spells present could do no harm either.

I think setting your own spell effects colors would be fun, but it might as well come with a full spellcrafting suite...

A large percentage of the game's combat is the visual cues you receive through the spell's effects shown on screen. If you allow your opponent the ability to disguise their spell through custom effects, you have no way of identifying what they are using. It's probably also not a good idea to take unnecessary and unprovoked pot shots at the developers.

I agree 100% on the barbershop part. Yet there needs to be more then just visual hair and looks and what not. That being said the customization you can do for tattoos and other visuals is appalling. When I first saw the customization video well over two years ago now I was pumped because it looked like someone had finally created the perfect system yet when I finally entered the pre-beta I was extremely disappointed with what was being offered.

I wanted to edit my tattoos, I wanted to be able to change the color of them, choose where they go yet I got almost none of that. Just generic looking scribbles on my face and back.

Yet your statement will be entirely meaningless if spell crafting is added; had they come out and said we will not be adding spell crafting then I would entirely agree with you but still agree to disagree because when people cast at me I block, but the other half of the time I am on top of them destroying them. And ZOS did say they are looking into adding spell crafting so unfortunately I am now forced into asking you... How do you think the game will change once spell crafting is added? Those "combat visuals" will be meaningless because you dont know what is being casted at you in the first place so you will have to entirely rely on your gut.

This is exactly hoe Spellcrafting is going to work:

And each spell will have its own visual effect just like now.

I dunno @Cazzy ... A player who has all fire abilities that changes all their colors to blues and whites would then look like an ice mage... without there being new skills. I think it would really help with the diversity of builds without ACTUALLY adding anything to the game.

Fascinating. Truly. I do like what they are planning to do. However forgive me if I am wrong here for I had to read it rather quickly. From the sound of it spellcrafting is a thing exclusive to mage type characters. What I am looking for and suggesting is abilitycrafting. I want to be able to make my own weapon moves, class ability moves, and spells. That is what I was looking for. The point of this thread is Ability pigments essentially. I am happy to see that spellcrafting is being done right, yet I want more then just customized magicka based spells.

For example, I want to take the Bitting Jabs ability, and instead of the spear animation I want it to be a sword whirling around like a tornado and make it 360 degrees of damage and the closest target takes 140% additional damage. I would also change the color of the animation to a blood red and I would want to name the ability as well. With the sacrifice of 2 meters of range. I want to be able to create my own class abilities for my class, and my weapons, and my spells.

I think once you reach level 50 you should be given a quest line to test your strength so to say. At the end of the quest line it gives you a new skill line to make your own class abilities. And a quest line for each weapon in the game as well, it would be mastery of the weapon and only once level 50 with the weapon itself will the quest line begin.

We should be allowed to edit all of the weapon abilities and class abilities. At least the color and model of the attacks at the very least.
