Achivement Hunters?

OK so being a younger gamer I am into action.
I like to fight players (why fight predictable AI?) and such-with and such forth.

But I see people in Cyrodiil caves trying to kill mobs that all do the same kind of thing. They will wait a long while for respawn to get an achievement and like, they have to repeat this over and over for every dungeon.

I am a terrible person aren't I? For thinking you people must be just.. lacking something.
Am I horrid? Hopefully someone can give me a perspective explaining why you would repeat such a dull, repetitive, grindy action.

I once read somewhere that for comfort we repeat things we did as kids. Even if the action is unexplainable.

"How many achievement points do you have, Brian? Well uhh.. I'm kinda in the middle of an epic battle so I have no idea."

If your group is bigger than 6 members gain 75% damage reduction.

Write this on the back of your box and see how many sales you get!

You won't get any new PvP players until this archaic AoE crap is fixed.
I for one won't resub until:
1.) You fix lag.
2.) You remove AOE caps we voted against.
3.) 12 months have passed (this is how long we've waited for you to 'get with it')[/b]

They probably have something to keep them entertained whilst doing said grindy action, watching a movie on a second monitor, or half the monitor, and just half-heartedly muscle-memory-ing the grinding, or something like that. I've never really liked hunting achievements myself, although if there were a straight-forward way of going about it, I probably would try to complete eideic memory. Lorebooks and lore-collectibles have always been my exception to the rule, I like getting those.

To some players, it's not all about fighting. Some people get enjoyment out of exploration, fishing, buying/selling/trading, lore, collecting gear, crafting, etc.

There are many facets to an MMO, fighting is only one. Some of us that have been around a few games find that completing as much as you can is in a way "beating" the game, although I take that with a grain of salt

    Why do you care?

My answer would be - there are ppl out there who have lots of "action" and creative stuff in their jobs, so they enjoy doing simple and repetitive things in their free time. It can be relaxing for some ppl.

We just love doing them.We arent like the young OP who is into the fighting.Which is just fine. That's why the game is made with so many things to do. We Achievement hunters are into a mixed play style. Questing sometimes, gathering mats sometimes,..and always on the hunt to finish our Achievements.

In my opinion you may as well be asking why people play games. Games typically have repetitive tasks, serve no actual purpose in the real world (unless you're like a streamer or something), and there's many types of games and not everyone plays each type.

Hopefully someone can give me a perspective explaining why you would repeat such a dull, repetitive, grindy action.

Quests are just an excuse to go out in the game world and do something. Farming is an excuse, running a group dungeon looking for a boss loot drop to complete a set is an excuse. Exploring is an excuse, Pvp is an excuse etc. We like being in the game world, but we want to do something while we are there. Achievements are just another excuse to go do something.

I don't chase Achievements for the sake of the achievement, I look at Achievements for ideas of what to do in the game or to make sure I have cleared a zone.

Also, there is no real reason to grind dungeon bosses in non group dungeons, they drop unique loot for the most part. The chance of getting a dropped set item is the same as most any other mob. More than likely, they are attempting to clear the dungeon which requires killing the boss. Sometimes we have to wait for it if someone got them just before we showed up. Completing a dungeon gives a nice chunk of Exp so that could be the reason more so than chasing an achievement.

Now, that being said, I have done millions of points of damage in one small delve over a two week period to farm Warlock rings. I had 4 characters at around VR1 and they were all casters. Back pre 1.6 they were the ring and necklace to have for a caster, sold for huge amounts of money. Sure it was a grind, but it was for a reason. I also gained 4 VR Ranks (back when they were a real grind), leveled 4 Mules in crafting from deconning drops and made about 300,000 gold just from mob loot, and another 200,000 selling excess Signets and Focuses. I don't do that kind of very often, but it was lucrative.

I wouldn't say you're a terrible person, but you do show a disturbing lack of empathy, i.e. the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes.

You say you like action and that fighting AI monsters is dull and repetitive. Other people think PvP is just as repetitive - the same 4 classes, the same few skills being spammed... Neither of these views is The Universal Truth. For instance, both PvE and PvP can have a strong social aspect. I like doing dungeons with a group of regular buddies. We goof around and talk cr*p and have fun. Just like I did when I played PvP almost exclusively.

Other people may like to do solo content all the time and don't appreciate the social aspect. Others may like to complete all achievements as a personal challenge. When I'm not doing group content I'm now trying to complete the fishing achievements (I'm down to 1 fish in the Rift and 4 in Cyrodiil, yay!).

Bottom line is: there is no right way to enjoy the game. To think everyone should have the same tastes as you is pretty callous. But I put it down to your age, since as you say you're quite young.

OP many players and people enjoy being completionists. That means doing EVERYTHING in a game, including achievements. Other people who chase achievements might just do them to unlock a specific color or get a specific title.

To each his own, as it is with gaming and everything else in life. Some people can't imagine ever participating in Rp. I can't imagine playing the game without it. Some of us, like myself, do it all. PvP, PvE, Achievement hunt, Rp. Helps keep the game fresh and interesting for me, enjoying all aspects of it.

And to other players, it's about boasting

Who are you going to boast to? It's not like you get an arrow above your head pointing to you with "Achievements won here!"
We just love doing them.We arent like the young OP who is into the fighting.Which is just fine. That's why the game is made with so many things to do. We Achievement hunters are into a mixed play style. Questing sometimes, gathering mats sometimes,..and always on the hunt to finish our Achievements.
    That's where we get our fun. :}

don't forget to jump of the waterfall :P

Oooooh,..I know!! The bane of my game! I have tried numerous times, and even after talking to the NPC on the ledge,I STILL dont get that achievement.I have tried doing the run and jump off at the triangular rock, just diving straight off, etc, but nope/.Not yet! lol.

@Volkodav Here's how to get the cliff jumping achievement:
Get into the river to the left of the NPC and jump (or run, or walk) off the waterfall. You should land alive in the area just before the bridge below, with the achievement. I often use this as a shortcut to the region below the scarp.

I got the jumper achievement on accident, due to my habit of jumping off of things into water...

I smiled when I got the achievement, thinking "I'd always hoped there'd be a sequel to jumping off that nose..." Big kudos to whomever thought to add that in Wrothgar.
