It doesn't actually have anything to do with messages (chat) in any way 99% of the time.

When it says "messages" it means server messages, such as pressing E to interact, swapping skills etc. If you spam these a few times during a lagspike then the server boots you for too many messages in such a short time.

Just be careful with how often you interact/use something, try not to spam it, and it usually won't happen but even then it will surprise you sometimes. .
