Change the way soul gems work...

It would be ideal if reviving someone used one of their soul gems vice one out of your own inventory.

I think we would see more good Samaritan res's in PvP and it would certainly make pugs (or even team groups) less painful knowing you will have to res those who don't have the mechanics down yet.

Plus, this would overcome issues created by players not having high enough level soul gems to res someone else.

Please consider ZOS~

Soul gems are actually ridiculously easy to get if you know how. There are some shops with like 4 or 5 grand soul gems in which you can just steal and relog and they all come back. 10 minutes and you've got like 50 gems.

Also reviving someone in pvp gives a little bit of AP, which builds up over time. 10 resses and you're up like 500 AP.

So if players know where to get their gems, it wouldn't be a problem. I think the system is fine as it is now.

Do you play in Non Vet pvp by any chance? I have noticed that people res less there.

The drawback of that idea would be high level players who usually have soul gems to spare being unable to raise their lowbie allies due to them not yet being at the stage where one has more soul gems as one uses.
    Bad idea, I'd say.

Yeah, in vet areas, soul gems are EVERYWHWRE. And I loot them all the time from mobs and chests. I keep a full stack on me amd constantly sell my excess to merchants for some extra gold. Zos practically throws soul gems at us.

It is the same in all PvP camaigns...vast majority don't res and those of us that do go thru soul gems at a ridiculous rate. Having your own soul gems utilized for res would both encourage more res's as well as instill a penalty for dying, so-to-speak.

Plus, as mentioned, there is the issue of public groups using group finder. I as a V16 might get paired with three rank 15 players (non-vet rank 15). Should I die carrying the load, they will not be able to res me. Plus, actually being willing to carry low levels and teach them the mechanics is something few seem willing to do. It is an additional deterrent if I am going to consume a large quantity of soul gems trying to teach and carry them...not to mention the ridiculousness of using expensive grand soul gems on a non-vet, low level player.

As for the ease of acquiring soul gems... indeed, they are not terribly difficult to come by. However, the rate at which you can burn thru them in an hour of hardcore PvP or doing a pug carrying low levels in astounding. It becomes very expensive and or tedious to keep the supply up. And yes, you do get 50 AP for res'ing a player in PvP. However, I could get 800+ AP for simply bypassing that player and going for a kill; takes the same amount of time and I am out one less soul gem.

Simply, lowbies would be required to carry soul gems at their level. Cheap as hell at low levels

There is important thing, not the soul gem but pugs don't revive deads. The solution would be if u get AP if u revive others. ~500 AP, then every1 would like to revive. cooldown: only once/min.

    :))

Soul gems are cheap and easy to acquire I always have at least 100 on me in PvP.
They used to be a lot easier to fill at the training dummies till some marketing guy nerfed that to try to make us buy the ones from the crown store I suspect.

Soul gems have been around in their current state / form / function forever. They are easy to obtain, and easy to use.
Thers no reason to change them. ZOS got them right with ESO, they dont need to fix what isnt broken.

As far as PvP, PvP doesnt belong in an Elder Scrolls game. Enough said on that.

Except they ARE broken. ZOS wants us to use the group finder. I have a great group of players I run with so I never need pugs. However, those I know that use it, or even the few times I have decided to do so, often run into issues where the lower level players you get grouped with have no ability to res higher level players...both Vet and non-Vet. Simply, such a change would solve this, and the aforementioned, issues.

Maybe it could simply be a choice? You rez another player and have the choice of using your own soul gem or one of theirs. If you don't have a soul gem capable of reviving them, then you can use one of theirs.

If they have no soul gems but you have some, then you can simply choose to use your own.

There could also be something in the options menu for players on the receiving end of this. "Do you want players reviving you to be able to use your soul gems in order to do so?" That way, those those that would prefer to keep their soul gems would not be forced into giving one up to be rezzed by someone.

Are there any problems with what I have suggested? If so, I want to hear them.

I think we should make something on how soulgems work so when in a pug group with mixed levels the lower ones will know to get higher level soulgems just in case and will know how to obtain them relatively easy o.o

@Azurephoenix999 Not sure I agree with having a gameplay option to select for "use someone else's" would work as I imagine everyone would default set this and it would defeat the purpose, but I do think you and @Lightninvash are correct in that for such an idea to work, there would need to be a pop-up that when you tried to res someone and they were out of soul gems, it would give you an option to use one of your own.

@Lightninvash I am not sure it is fair to require a lvl 15sh player to buy grand Soul gems vice ones appropriate for their level. Most of us in the vet ranks have a little bit of a gold cushion but someone just starting the game would not, and it would be a bit of a stretch to require them to buy soul gems at 1k per (since they cannot buy empty ones and simply fill them as monsters wont be high enough level for them to do so).

well could also make sure everyone has them and if kind enough share like 10 just in case the lower levels do not have them. could be another way. then again ik not everyone is willing to just give stuff away like I am haha and they can fill empties and fill in cyro that's what I did when I played on my 12 in vet campaigns since all the monsters are lvl 50+ :) that is more or less what I meant about teaching them how to obtain it because most new players don't think cyro has the higher levels with battle leveling isn't too hard to beat mobs

Ok, I see your point(s). I was thinking of it from more of a single player point of view.

Wouldnt a simple solution be to just have the higher level players give appropriate gems to the lower level people at the start of the dungeon?
PUGs are a no win situation most of the time, so I dont think anything could save PUGs as we know them. Though a knowledgeable, cooperative group could easily make the current gems system work for them.

I do see your point though.

I've very rarely run into this issue- but all it takes one death/non-res for the higher level players to say "do you have soul gems?" and then trade a handful of them to the lower level player for free, to insure it doesn't happen again.

that's what I was saying above. haha I agree

my question is are the working of soulgems actually explained in game or is it figure out on your own kinda thing?

I think its assumed players understand the basics of soul gems, simply because they've been in ES games forever.
I guess if ESO is your first ES game, you might be confused, but ignorance is never an excuse ;-)

My thought is yes you can read usable up to x level every ten levels new soulgem type. but when I was new I personally didn't know that you could buy an empty soulgem from the store and fill it. Also never would have thought to use cyro for the higher level gems due to the mobs being high level until a guild mate told me about it and a good way to do it.

I'd rather have it that players can use banked soul gems. You can use banked food and crafting material miles away. Why not a magical stone?

If you're a Level 35, I'd rather use a Common than a Grand. And I'd be more likely to res if I didn't have to spend a Grand on everyone just because that's all that is in my inventory.

How many Soul Gems do I have? Over 200 Greater and over 200 Grand plus a ton of all the others although not quite as many. Do I ever buy Soul Gems? Nope. Do I ever get freebies via passive skills or whatnot? Nope.

    So what the problem is?
