Downloading for patches has always been around 3-5MB/s or less, any way to make this better?

I haven't logged in for some time, and a good part of why is that there's always a massive patch waiting for me that caps out between 3-5MB/s. It's always been this slow, even when I first downloaded the game. Speedtests tell me my download speed is 170MB/s, which is low considering how fast I can download other large files.

Seriously, every time I think, "I should play some ESO, it's been too long!" I end up with a download screen for hours. I usually let it do its thing, but forget about playing until the next time it occurs to me, and... another patch! Vicious cycle.

How can I stop ESO from squashing my desire to play?

Update your client on a regular basis.

If you're on Xbox one you can change your console power settings to 'instant on' what that actually means is that every time you select to turn off the console, it will check all games and its current system version for an update. Once something is updated it will then fully turn itself off.

Once a week I select instant on, select to turn off the console and I have lunch or whatever. But if you're not on Xbox, then im just talking jibberish to you.

    Are you sure it isnt 170 Mbit/s? That translates to (170 / 8 = ) 21.25 MB/s

Im usually downloading the updates with 10-20 MB/s.

We have pretty good internet, houseful of developers and gamers. Which is why it's so unusual for ESO to be so slow. I tried plugging into the router, no difference, so it doesn't seem to be the wifi.

    I'm on a Mac, btw.
