I don't understand why I , as a crafter, hafta put up with running the same old boring pledges just to have to pick up some laurels so I can help other players who might want mercenary gear...seems like a simple attempt to foster interest in a dead end...

they wanna encourage you to use your crafters as more than just some skill dump so you aren't master of combat on one and master of cradts on another

Very true....exampled in the DLC as well requiring players to have all skill points in line to receive vet 15/16 materials....

Has anyone gotten a laurel out of a non-vet dungeon?

I have all the mercenary motifs read and studied but will never make one piece...
I bought the motifs as I HATE the daily pledges so i would have the achievement...
Its a Real pity as i like some of the gear..
Hope zenni will put up a kiosk in stormhaven where i can buy them,
like they will be doing with monster helms and gear.....
The merc motiff is so cheap you can learn it on your non-crafter that you run pledges with. The Laurels are bound to account but you can still bank them for use on your crafter.

Yes, but not everybody is into doing pledges religiously. Some people just like doing other stuff, like crafting writs and harvesting and crafting gear. The dungeons are not for everyone.

I'm just not the type that thinks that everything should be available to everyone no matter what they want to do. To me it is always an issue of where to draw the line of "play how you want" People want laurels, but don't want to do dungeons. People want PvP skills but don't want to PvP. People want Undaunted passives, but don't want to do dungeons. People want Maelstrom weapons, but don't want to do VMA. How many alternative ways of giving things to people do we do before we just give everything away all the time. Is nothing worth working for anymore?

And I actually agree with you in most instances. But having a trait stone be bound when the motif pages are not is a bit silly. In many cases, someone who is a "professional" crafter is crafting this stuff for other people, and if they want merc armor, they should be able to farm the laurels and hand them to the crafter.
