What is the state of the game?

Hey, everyone I stopped playing ESO around November/December last year, and since then have played about 3 hours hours total. I started playing the game when it was released and just cancelled my subscription one or two months ago.

So I wanted to ask:What is the state of the game?". How is PvP in Cyrodill? I have fond memories of dozens of players bombarding walls with catapults and ballista, then storming the fortifications court yard as the walls crumbled. Is that still something that happens?

I remember doing small group PvE, healing with my nightblade healer, is that still viable? How is the group PvE content?

What is the state of the classes and abilities? When I left, werewolves a got a small but nice set of buffs, but where still weak compared to vampires. Nightblades and Templars where underpowered, while Wizards and Dragon nights still ruled the day. What is the new meta?

I remember a welcoming community, and fun roleplay/philosophy sessions (I am not kidding, I talked to one guy about quantum mechanics). How is the community doing?

Lastly, what has been added to the game? What is dead, what is alive? What additions rock and which additions suck? What are the game breakers, what add to the game?

Which platform are you on? On PS4 Cyrodiil can be laggy when there's a lot going on. Orsinium just came out which is a new PVE zone to explore.

I also came back to the game awhile ago. I think the game has improved a lot. I do not experience lag but then I don't PvP which is where I hear most of the lag is. I still don't like the lack of an auction house but it is what it is. The population seems to be very good from what I can see. I even got two friends of mine to come back. I am on PC also.

I think the only way to enjoy this game is by not playing it a lot. I cant think of a single player that has been here since beta/launch playing 5+ hour sessions multiple times a week and still equally enjoys doing so.

PvP has issues with effective play styles and lag because of the series of performance doping patches since launch and AOE caps which make ball groups superior to any other play style in every possible situation.

PVE seems to be in a good place. I dont think theres any game breaking mechanics in PVE at least. Then again, im not competitive in PVE at all. I would have trouble getting a group for anything even as a tank or healer.

I've switched between PVP and PVE about once or twice every few months and taken month long breaks from the game many times to keep myself from getting bored. I've never tried being more competitive than getting emperor on a low population server where I can flip keeps with just 7-10 skilled players.

The main reason i don't want to play currenntly is because of the grind for gear and bad PVP meta. I used to be able to craft sets of gear for basically no cost. Now i need 150 mats that cost around 700g each just for 1 piece of gear. The grind for gold is too much for me after playing for so long which makes changing my build literally impossible. So my DK will remain useless until the game changes so i don't have get gear for a Stamina DK or i decide to grind out gold which is beyond boring at this point making it a chore. I play games for fun.

All kidding aside, I love the game. I think it is worth coming back to, I think it was worth staying in and it's a shame that you left.

I'm planning on sticking around until they shut the servers down (and despite what doom sayers say I don't believe that will be soon).

A lot of changes that have happened are interesting, some are infuriating, but most are just...normal.

I apparently picked a bad campaign for my cyro stuff, but even if I hadn't I only want to level up the alliance skills, after that I don't really care. That being said, a bunch of my guild mates love it and do it all the time still.

Group PvE is still doable and a lot of fun, I enjoy running the dungeons even when I don't really need or want the gear that drops.

I think you should come back and stay.

Thanks for the answers guys, I think I will give the game another shot. But, do I need to re-subscribe or can I just play for free?

You can play it for free, but you'll need to buy IC and Wrothgar DLCs in order to visit those zones. IC is complete *** so don't bother buying it. Although i would suggest just trying the game for a few days then considering spending your money on it.

Try subbing for 1 month just to see what the expansions are like (that way you can have a glimpse of IC without having to buy it and decide if you like it or not). Orsinium is absolutely amazing and well worth going through; the attention to detail is exquisite
