Question and suggestion about Maelstrom Arena

First off before I even start, I AM NOT asking for Maelstrom Arena to be nerfed.

I see a lot of threads about what skills are needed to complete this with ease and I can't help but ask

Why in an expansion that is geared toward the solo player would you require skills from Undaunted or Alliance lines to complete this easily, or at least more easy than without them?

I can tell you my VR16 Stamina duel axe wielding DK with about 200 CP is going nowhere in this arena. I tried Normal first and did fine. I got to 5th boss and had to take a break so I thought fine when I come back I'll just go straight to Vet mode. Ha,, Can't even get past the first boss. After about 10 tries I think I got him down to about 2/3 health. Now I'm sure I won't have as much trouble with my templar since he has been a better fighter since he was VR8. Like I said I'm not asking for the arena to be nerfed.

What I'm asking for is something along the lines of battle spirit, something that only applies to Wrothgar. What I'd like to see is a stop to the favoritism of certain play styles. Make something that is in effect as long as you are in Wrothgar that makes the Undaunted and Alliance skill lines useless by nerfing the heck out of those skills as long as you are in Wrothgar. Then lets see how tough it is. I have no doubt I will complete it as is, but I would like to see an even playing field. If you are going to do something to kill my solo build in PvP then it is only fair you kill the PvP build in Solo.

    I tried normal maelstrom yesterday. Did well enough until the ice stage... then I just -couldn't- win. No matter what I tried, the final boss dumps me in the water and I freeze. Maybe will try again with better gear and some food buff, but... that was on my templar, which is my best character for hardcore endurance battleing due to heavy armor and selfheals... I shudder to think how much trouble I might have on my squishy-in-comparison nightblade main

    I couldn't agree more, these are my thoughts, too. This zone is supposed to be a place for solo players (not only, but mainly), and yet PvPers and group dungeon completionists have a ton more skills than the average PvE player. So if this is meant to be soloed (the Arena obviously is), PvP and Undaunted skills should be disabled in this zone, this is the only FAIR chance for a PvE player, and to find out if it's too hard or not. I died about 5 times in stage 6 to the last boss and gave up, who knows if I could have made it with more than just standard skills (plus standard gear, but that's a different topic). Tbh, I don't think I can.

    The trick is to focus on the adds. Kill them as fast as possible, preferably before the boss can recall them back to himself. I believe recalling them makes him grow gradually stronger until he gets powerful enough to oneshot you.

    When i did it for the first time on my stamina DK, i basically didn't attack the boss directly at all. I just killed his adds and kept reflective scales up as often as i could. He eventually killed himself with the reflected entropic bolts.

    My problem with this character are the roots. I understand the mechanics just fine I just get so depleted on resources. I don't know if it is the fact that it is an Imperial or just the fact he uses axes, but I've never been able to pull more than about 4k sustained dps, then again he is my crafter. I'm in the process of changing him back to a magicka DK. Not much work yet but Up to 5K sustained and I'm not using all of my stamina up on attacking. We'll see if I get any farther when I get done.

    I don't know what it is with this guy but his attributes have always seemed low. I have to convert everything just to break 20k on a resource pool and that usually drops the other one to around 10k. My Breton Templar passed him up on stats at VR10 without even trying to build it.
