Axes aren't cutting it.

When it comes to weapon choice one seems to lag far behind the others. That is, of course, the axe.

Daggers are used quite commonly for their boost to your crit which any crit build can enjoy. Maces are great when it comes to wailing away on someone or something with a good deal of armor. Who could not enjoy a straight damage boost, even to the point where swords have often surpassed staves for magic users. Now where does that leave the humble axe? Often in the bank.

While a dot is a cool idea, in concept, it seems to be lacking quite a bit in execution. This raises the question of how can we bring the axe back on par with the other weapons?

Some possible ideas I have are as follows so please feel free to tell me what you think of them or, of course, make some suggestions of your own so that one day, these sad lonely weapons may once more find themselves in a warm hand doing what they love on the battlefield.

1. Allow dots to stack to a certain point. This would allow the dot to become a snowballing damage generater to a certain point (specific numbers would have to be decided) that has a use in any form of combat.

2. Give axes a "wound" debuff that reduces healing received by a target by a certain percentage. This would allow it to be seen as a more PvP weapon that still has some minor use in PvE.

3. A debuff that reduces the damage of the opponent by a certain percentage. This would allow axes to be the "go-to" for many tanks and would get a good chunk of PvE time while also being seen sometimes in PvP.

4. "Hinder" or a debuff of sorts that reduces a targets move speed by a small percentage (so as not to remove the use of more specific snares) that would allow axes to be seen a bit more in some PvP to prevent enemies from getting away.

Those are just a few suggestions, so please share any thoughts or ideas as well! Hopefully we will be able to get our axes some form of boost so that they can finally make the cut!

i agree with 1 and 3. the problem with the dot on axes is that there are already so many DoT in the game

Just buff Skoria back again and make the DOT tick more and harder.

BTW, I thought your title was a sneaky pun there

I never really liked the fact that axes alone got DoT... I mean, wound is wound, and bleeding is bleeding, right? If axes make bleeding wounds by chopping a hole in someones flesh to let the red stuff run out, why shouldn't swords or daggers to the same when they open up someone to take a slash or stab at their innards?

Personally I would much rather have some different effect I suppose... maces are fine with armor penetration, bot all others... I'd much rather see them with a mix of bleeding DoT (since all axes, daggers and swords leave bleeding wounds) and some special flavor add on. Like, daggers have bonus crit & bleed, swords have bonus damage & bleed, axes get armor penetration & bleed, maces get double armor penetration but no bleed for blunt trauma.

I like the axe very much and since my main is a Nord, it fits very well. However, as you mentioned, it lags behind all the other DW-able weapons. So basically I'm pushed into a position to use swords for the extra damage to be effective on the battlefield.

I hope ZOS does take notice of this as they are some good ideas. Especially the ones with hinder and also as mentioned by another poster, crit damage modifier.

Axe should get a crit boost, not a DoT. Swords shouldn't get a damage bonus but a speed boost and blocking bonus (parry). Maces are fine.

This is how it should be

Given the rather large difference between Maces and the rest no wonder you would say that lol (not actually sure if Maces are like Mauls that way, I'd have to look again lol)

As for Axes not cutting it, perhaps you shouldn't try mining with your woodcutting axe? :p

The bleed DoT can actually be very powerful but the only problem that I have with axes is that a lot of enemies are immune to bleed damage which negates all benefits you get from the axe itself.

The plus to crit damage is a great idea!

Yes it is a shame so many things are totally immune to a perk of a single type of weapon.
