Will there be an option in the game to RENAME MY CHARACTER?

Hallo @ZOS_GinaBruno I would like to ask if there will be an option to change the name of my character in the game?

I would want to process and proceed my character in a higher name.

Here is how to get your character renamed.

Step 1. Become a prominent and recognizable force in PvP.

Step 2. The other faction will report your name as offensive to troll you.

Step 3. ZOS always takes these reports seriously and gives you a warning for your innocuous name and you get a forced name change.

It happened to a few of my characters and it happened to my friend Hovaling.

There was nothing offensive about his name, it was just his nickname from college or something. However, some very immature people tired of dying to him on the other team reported him constantly and ZOS takes multiple reports to mean serious problem - unless its reports of cheating or hacking in PvP, then those get ignored.

This also happened to my beloved Non-vet toon Daedric Car Bomb.

The other way to do it is to talk a lot in a starter Zone. Even if one fragile carebear in PvE reports your name and says their immurzunz were hurt by it, you will get a free name change!!!

You may have to go out of PvP to do it though. My toon Pelvic Sorcery was PvPing for months with no problem. Stepped out into the main zone to buy stuff, got reported by some scrub. Bam there goes my awesome name.

The lusty argonian maid is ok but pelvic sorcery isn't? Logic need not apply.

TL:DR Have someone report you and pretend to be offended. ZOS will force the change. Exploit in PvP for months, get away with it.

There is a way you can do this, but it is risky. First, delete your character. Next, get a friend to create a character with the deleted character's name (or do this yourself if you have a second account). Raise a ticket to get the deleted character reinstated. As the name has now been taken, you will be assigned a temporary name and then you simply enter the name you want.

I haven't tried it myself and I can't guarantee it will work, but in theory you should be good. Personally, I'd wait until character renames are offered as a service on the Crown Store. Hopefully, they'll implement this soon.

One can hope they will simply sell a namechange in the crown store someday soon...

I'd love to have an option to go to a recordkeeping clerk in your faction capital and bribe them with a bag full of crowns to "update the official records" with a new character name...

I made several alts where I did not spend as much thought on their name as I should have, considering them mere testbed characters or crafting alts, but... now after a year or more playing them, they have grown on me, and I would like to change their names to something more lore-conform, and would be willing to spend crowns on this...

Come on, ZOS, take my crowns, make me happy, start selling character namechanges! ;)

Well what I did to have my name changed get perma banned was have a dev decide that because I had the word "German" in my name I must be a racist and terrible person - from there it was easy, all I had to do was present facts as to why that assumption was absurd and offensive to me to assume so much and customer support did all the rest.
And we all know the customer support team never listens to reason, just look at where PvP is right now.

Oh wait, you're just trying to get a name change, not a perma ban. My bad! :)

This is another QoL item that really needs to be in the game. It's like not getting a refrigerator in your new apartment..99.9% of the other apartments have them, so you expect this one to have one too...

Character re-customization is another drastically needed option. Not necessarily Race change (some are against that, and i can understand why), but adjusting your characters details, especially hair and adornments should be elementary, and in the game.

A Third is custom costumes, or at least a customization process outside of the company tailored stuff. Players love to customize their characters, and the "costumes" which are really nothing more then mild variations of the armor skins already found in game, aren't customization. let us make ones WE like, not ones the dev's THINK we'll like.

This is just a small list of things that should be in the game. Most other MMO's have them, and it's rapidly becoming an industry standard. Not to mention...it's additions that the company could make MONEY off of. Players benefit by having more options and flexibility in their characters design and looks, and company has more "crowns" in the coffers to do important things with, like fixing bugs and adding new content. win/win situation.

I never understood the whole "I need to rename my character" if you had named it correctly in the first place wouldn't that be unnecessary?

Honestly I'd prefer a barber shop long before a rename mechanic.

Pretty sure it had something to do with the r-word. The bad one. The really bad one that once you utter it in the wrong context, another (usually) female player will report it. It makes the name "Pelvic Sorcery" into a horribly insensitive joke.

Its a reference from the guardians of the galaxy movie. But you are right, anyone can pretend to be offended for any reason and usually get a mod to sympathize.

But how is Pelvic Sorcery any worse than anything in the lusty argonian maid book series.

My guess? Understood context. Even though it is more than not used in jokes that usually have a lewd undertone, its prevalent in the ES series has delegated it to the rather secure status of strictly being a humorous--if slightly suggestive--quip. Yeah, I know, it barely makes any sense to me too.

And I didn't know that about it being a reference to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The more you know... :p

Once upon a time, there was a bug in the character generator that dit not let people zoom in on their character faces to get them right.
Also sometimes things look neat in chargen, and not so great when the character is in the live game, in motion, wearing this or that set of armor, and so on.
And of course, some people just forget that one slider, and don't notice the effect until much later.

Not to mention there's always those who want to change their character to reflect development as they play through the storyline. Go from fresh faced squire to grizzled veteran, that sort of thing.

And finally, some people occasionally feel the need to completely redo their character to make a clean break after some bad experiences, but don't want to throw away a year playing, researching and achgievement hunting for it.

All those would pay crowns for change options.
Payments that ZOS would then add to their profit tab, which is what the suits look at when they have their next board meeting to decide the future of ESO.
Thus I wholly support any recustomization functions - once because it lets me adjust small details on my characters I fumbled in chargen, and twice because the extra income means more content financed for everyone all the sooner, and longer life for ESO!
