Winterborn question

So I was checking out the new Winterborn set which gives a prov chance on Cold damage... And I was just wondering, apart from light/heavy attacks from a frost staff and a component of Crushing Shock (and the other morph) what sources of Cold damage are available to players?

Awesome, thanks. Didn't think of those.
Do you know if weapon enchants can proc without you hitting with the weapon? It sounds like stupid question, and probably is, but if you run a magicka ranged build with dw swords (as per fotm) will the enchants ever proc?

It's possible to proc enchantments when using abilities of the weapon line that your equipped weapon belongs to.
Force shock, destructive touch, weakness of elements and impulse for example will proc the enchantment even without you doing light or heavy attacks. Not sure about wall of elements, but who would use this anyway ?

Actually, I ice staff + wall of elements + winter born could be a good combo in group play. Was theory crafting last night but I don't have the new content. Haven't been back for long but unless they've fixed the snares bug that made them so OP, I'd use it just for that.

Testing it currently light weaving with Unstable Wall of Elements (concuss + chance to proc) with frost enchant on my ice staff, Crushing Shock and utilizing Ice Comet as my ult. I've been clearing through non-vet quickly looking into tweaking the build before testing in VMA.

Ice staff with Elemental Ring could proc this set a lot if my calcs are correct.

For example, when you fight 3 enemies and spam Ice Ring (aoe + dot dmg).

5% chance on ice dmg to proc the effect.
    Proc chance for each Ice Ring = 1 - (0,95*0,95)^3 = 26%.

If you combine this with, lets say, Nerienths 2pc bonus (this doesnt proc on dot dmg).
Proc chance for each Ice Ring = 1 - 0,90^3 = 27% (same chance as crushing shock).

Each Ice Ring (when you hit 3 targets) has a chance of 26% to proc the Ice Crystal and 27% chance to proc the Lich Crystal.

    An interesting setup could be:
    5x Winterborn
    2x Nerienths
    3x Willpower
    1x Maelstrom Ice Staff (sharpened)

Elemental Blockade would proc the Ice Crystal even more often but the dmg is way too low atm.
5% chance on ice dmg to proc the effect.
    Proc chance each second while using Ice Blockade = 1 - (0,95*0,95)^(2*3) = 46%.

@Jitterbug was this along the lines you were thinking?

Edit: Crushing Shock weave with Ice staff would make the proc chance of the Ice Crystal relative low. Proc chance for crushing shock weave = 1 - 0,95^(1+1) = 9,75%.

The Winterborn set could be interesting for AOE but its probably not really effective for single target dps.

One of the main limitations for this set is the lack of class abilities that deal Frost dmg.

    Thanks for that!

Yeah I was afraid the math might turn out like this. GJ though!

The chance to proc was upped to 8% at go live. So that's roughly a 15%chance to proc with every CS weave, and then a cool down after proc (3s I think is what people tested)

I don't think destructive touch would be worth the slot, and now that wall of elements will only tick once per second, I'm not sure that would be worth it either.

There's an outside chance that a precise/sharpened maelstrom frost staff could make winter born worthwhile for straight up damage. As then you could double up on bonuses from using blockade.

Sadly, wall of elements frost already snares, as does chilled so there's not much extra utility gained from the effect
