my vision of what I think Imperial City should have been

Keep the location of IC the same, in the center of Cyrodiil.

All 3 Alliances battle for Emperor/Empress; once an alliance has control over all the keeps surrounding Imperial City, the gates to IC open and everyone from any alliance can enter IC. Inside IC there is a final keep that needs to be taken.

Once an alliance controls all the keeps surrounding IC and the one inside IC, then the top player for that alliance is crowned "Emperor/Empress", the gates to IC will then be locked and only that alliance will have access to IC.

I think this would help with the PvP population, and create a more balanced playground. More people would be interested in playing PvP; also people could quest and do dungeons in IC without the fear of being ganked. The only time they could be ganked is when the gates are open.

The PvP population has gone over a year without new content. Theyve had to play in Cyrodiil all of this time. This is nothing more than something new and different. Once the shininess rubs off. A lot of the players that overly enjoyed the large scale PvP in Cyrodiil will return to it.

And I'm seeing a lot of players return to Cyrodiil (finally). However, I'm not seeing the same economy for PVPers. It's still hard to make money PVPing (unlike before), and thus affects the ability of some to do wall repairs or buy potions. It sends a lot of PVPers out to PVE/grind. The Akavari motifs with Orsinium should help that to some degree.

Imperial city was not a pvp update. It's a PVE update with pvp thrown in. Imperial city is already dead for pvp and everyone has returned to Cyrodiil. Not because they love the large scale zerg combat, but because it's our only option

The only real problem at this point with the IC concept is the items avaialble for purchase with Telvar Stones. If they had some really nice stuff in there that needed a bunch of stones, then it would be more beneficial to stay there. Everyone says that the reason they leave IC is cause they have all the stuff they need with TVs. That means they need to put more stuff that needs TVs in the merchants. No reason they can't have a high end set need say 500k TVs per pc in there so people feel like they had something to work toward.
I'm kind of a small deal!

What it should've been is less segmented. Feels like a lobby and a few instanced rooms, not a city.

but that further makes IC a grind job, not something people play because they want to. IC is is just not fun for pvp and not fun for PVE. Adding more things to grind for doesn't change that

Imperial City was nothing like what it sounded like. They made it sound like you were retaking the city and clearing out the distacts and claiming them for your faction all were lies. Instead you get 5+ minute loads and takes forever to do one quest before you need to load in out in out in out just to turn these in. IC can be good if they actually do it the way it was supposed to be.

I would've rolled IC out differently but that's also because I would have rolled Cyrodil out differently.

Funny I can remember everyone that called themselves a PvPers saying the complete opposite when it was first announced.

And every time Ive gone into IC the place has been over run with PvPers...So Im starting to wonder if maybe the PvP crowd is starting to wake up and realize that IC wasnt the best idea when it revolved around gank squads. And instead of confronting that issue. Youre throwing it on the PvE crowd because they were the ones that were actually baited into going into IC for the new Dungeons and Top Level Gear.

Once again, players paying for the dlc through subscription or buying straight from the crown store are punished, as there is a real possibility of never gaining access. As we know, not all campaigns are balanced. Gate access to the controlling alliance is only going to alienate pve'rs and to some degree, pvpérs who cannot get on one of the balanced campaigns. No one wins.

IC was always flagged as a PvP release. I am hoping that the mistake and thinning of the player base was a lesson learned in mixing PvX playstyles.

Orsinium will be a mistake as well most likely on the difference between casual and hardcore.

I suspect that IC was a victim of the Good Idea Fairy. I imagine that it originally started as first group to ring the keeps has to take the surrounding districts and then the central keep from the Daedra, then afterwards, Emperor only shifts after the keep is double ringed (keeps/districts), then the castle and throne are taken.

Those additional steps would make it harder/more tedious to emperor trade.

Course, then the discussion on how they could get more than just the PvP players to buy it started and it was marketectured to what you see today.
Due to a typo in the system, the area was accosted by the Daedric Prince Moar Lag Brawls.

As someone who has always completely detested the concept of zergfesting, large scale PvP, I obviously have never been too keen on Cyrodiil. My idea of PvP is more one to one, or one to three for example, so I was really, really excited at the potential for IC given the way it was presented.

I don't think we have really had an opportunity to experience it as it was intended, because the reception of IC got completely destroyed by the PvE hysteria train even when it was still on PTS. I found myself defending it as a concept in quite a few threads here and am still getting trolled for it, as though I were some kind of PvP fanatic, lol.

My hope is that once Orsinium hits the game and has been live for say, about 2-3 months things will finally settle into what they should have been like for IC at launch, since by then all the zergycrowd runners will have cleared out and finished with their gear comparison griping and moved on to other parts of the game. At which point I will be in IC and actually discovering its many merits in peace - including the lurking PvP deaths from my enemies :)

That was indeed part of the original plan for IC. Considering how far that got through development, I would hope that District Control is something we still may see in the future.

Forgot about this. What we got was an oversimplified lobby with a handful of instanced rooms.

I like it but have a couple suggestions. In order for it to work, the dethrone would have to work the same way it does now not involving the IC Keep. Also, the only access that is locked is the other two sewer faction entrances leaving only one sewer entrance open that ANY faction should be able to enter. Once that Emperor/Empress was dethroned, all sewer gates open back up. Those already in IC would stay there until they left it or were killed. Once your killed, you are ported back to your Factions Gate. This would help give Factions a reason to fight for the Crown and actually take/defend existing keeps.

If all gates are not locked and anyone could enter IC; then I would suggest a Major buff for the faction that is crowned Emperor/Empress. Maybe a buff that allows that faction to see the cloaking Nightblades, or increase their weapon damage by 30%.

The faction with the Emperor already get a buff that the others don't. Also everyone would have to go through their territory and enter their IC Sewer. This would allow that faction to "police" that sewer entrance if they chose too. Getting ganked at that Factions sewer just provides more incentive for people to help fight to dethrone that Faction and open up their own Sewers.
