Does race matter a lot?

Currently playing a Breton NB, and wondering if the race would effect me a lot if I would change to a Stamina build?

Personally don't care about racial passives, even though I'm the right race for my class but that was by accident

Just give it a try and if you seem to struggle with Stamina etc then change back?

Race choice will never make or break a build. Player skill is the most important factor, with gear and Champion Points behind that. All classes and builds use both magicka and stamina, so the Breton's racials will still help in some way even if you are a stamina build.

It shouldn't affect you if you are able to adapt to the skills that you have and compensate for those that you don't. Even more than a year and a half in this game , you don't see people trying to get a group for raids like altmer sorcs only need to apply......

Yes it does, your Breton Nb will be fine as a Magica build but if you switch to a Stam build it will be turd, as you will hit less harder and your increased Magica will probably gain you half of a spells cost which means you wouldn't be able to cast more magica skills than if you went with a stam friendly race.

Race matters, certainly. If one is trying to min/max, then racial passives make a difference that can be measured. That said, this assumes that one is only trying to play a traditional role. In your case, playing a Breton Stamina NB would certainly mean that you will have slightly less damage output and/or Stam regen than you would as a traditional Stam race, but on the other hand your utility pool will have more sustain and you will have more Spell Resistance than most Stam builds. For a NB specifically, since you will always have a major armor buff up (ostensibly) this extra SR will make you a bit tougher against certain nasty bosses and players in PvP who use spells a lot... something Stamina builds sort of lack in general. To re-emphasize the utility thing: Stamina NBs have some expensive Magicka utility skills. Being a Breton makes them less costly, and you get some more tankiness to boot. I like the idea... then again, I like playing a Redguard Magicka NB :P

    I have 8 toons.
So, I have stamina altmer and magicka nord templar (the last one doesn't use armor at all).

This is the game I play as I want and feel cool to play.

Races hold more value to the player based on their own preference or RPG roles than their Passives do to anyone.

Not gonna lie though: Argonian Amphibious is awesome for swimming!

Any race can do anything nicely.

Its just if you have the best gear in the game with tons of champion points...an Imperial for example would be a better Stamina NB with the same build no matter what you do.

Its not that big of an advantage though, not a good reason to scrap a character and start over tbh.

I too went Breton for Nightblade, I did it because Mongrel race is best race.

@ZeFeZ . It will be a big hassle. I'm being honest. Make sure that you are the top tier race for what you are doing.
    Don't tank

Race matters if you're trying to maximize. You can make anything work, but going with races which gives buffs to magicka, stamina and/or damage type will mean more sustain and/or damage by default.

Let me put it this way, my magicka templar is a khajit , if he was an altmer he would gain about 6-7k magicka and 9% regen...which would translate into around 20%+ increase to my damage...

When it comes to how easily you can make a build work, it does matter what race you are. In the end, however, there are so many ways you can raise every stat that you can become just as effective regardless of race.

I'll put an example using my own character below:
I'm running a vr4 Dunmer Nightblade Tank. You would think that because Nords have increased resistance that a Nord would be better? Not really. Once you multiply all your bonuses in (including blocking) any Veteran levelled tank easily reaches the 83%-85% damage mitigation range. If I use Bolstering Darkness as my ultimate then I reach 90.5%, which is .5% over the hardcap for damage mitigation. I didn't even have to be a Nord.

If you're a "min/maxer" yeah, but if not, then no. Personally I don't give a damn about racial passives.

If you just cannot bear not having that last percentage point, then yes, race matters.

It on the other hand you don't worry about being "super-effective" but rather want to enjoy the game... fu... uhm... forget racial passives, play what seems a interesting idea to you!

Yes, your character is useless if you play anything other than an Imperial or Altmer, and you may as well delete it right away (at least according to those who QQ about this game needing free race change, preferrably yesterday).
