Motiviation to play the game?

What keeps you playing the game? I just recently made VR15 which should be a happy thing but instead I had a wtf am I going to do now moment. Mostly this had to do with gear. None of the crafting sets that I have used for the last 64 levels where extended to the last two levels so I look at the options from IC and none of them would really fit the build. Then the ones that do are LA set, which I only use for healing which I think the older sets even though two levels behind the new armor would actually help more for a pure healer/support build. Yes there is the redistributor but I think over healing is prevalent already and would probably be most useful in a pvp zerg. Another one that caught my eye is the overload set but again Light Armor, if I am healing I am trying to avoid drawing mobs attention so a damage proc that is triggered by using class skills isn't a good thing, although it would have uses in pvp but I prefer to use HA for the damage negate.

So this break down of gear sets is because my motivating factor for any RPG has always been character builds which is why I generally go slower through the story then most people I know. Once you get past a certain level it becomes about gear passives as opposed to skill leveling. So back to the original subject, what motivates you to keep playing a game particularly a MMO?

PvP, having a laugh with friends, claiming keeps with my terrible guild name like "Daggerfall's Bingo Hall" and stuff, to hopefully provoke them to take the keep. I don't mind leveling and trying out new builds too.

If console ever gets text chat, I'll start focusing on PvE too.

Oh and if I were you, I wouldn't focus too much on getting a specific (5) set bonus with a set... you can still be strong without them btw!

Nothing, really. I just wait for Orsinium to come out.
Trying to get a single piece of SM set appears to be just a waste of time.

Imo, Orsinum (with it's one-man-arena) feels like an emergency-expansion pack for casual/solo-players, as player numbers shoud have dropped considerably within the last half-year (30-50%).

    Next things I do expect:
    - deletion of some PvP servers
    - "down-tuning" of certain PvE-sets
    - upgrade to Vr 16 trials sets
    - new 8-16 man trials (next expansion pack)
    - maybe world bosses (like WoW) for full raids
    - NO major class balance rework at all
    - NO revamp of PvP (at least for one year)

Considering what they have done to the starter dungeon (wailing prison) I would have to agree with this assessment.

Orsinium with its 90% single player RPG content feels like a "We need to meet the second Quarterly goal" fix. The content is solid, but....
    1. Does nothing to encourage group play and that MMO feel
    2. Is very content deficient for $30.00 price tag.

At this point and time I think my $30.00 will be going towards an up and coming expansion for a different MMO. 300 times more content for the $.

I've always been a major TES fan since Daggerfall, and this game is perfect for me since I can experience the world of Nirn while playing/chatting with friends at the same time.

    Things that I usually do:

    - take a stroll through Tamriel: last week I simply went through Alik'r and Eastmarch, reminiscing a bit, taking SS etc... Tamriel is meant to be explored :p
    - pledges: even though I've currently done 42 of them without finding a monster helm (got plenty of good Shoulders, but no Helmets)
    - gathering mats in IC while I'm researcing the 8th trait on several Light Armor pieces for Kagrenac's Hope, so that I can eventually craft an entire 5 pcs Glass set of it
    - learning how to PvP properly: currently using the Phoenix set for that since it helps me learn from my mistakes and survive a bit longer. Recently joined a PvP Dueling guild and had a couple of fights with some great players from AD. Still have much to learn, but I'll get there :p

And currently I'm eagerly anticipating Orsinium :p

I love the game, that's my motivation for playing it. I adopt my usual MMO approach of taking things slowly, soloing but with co-operative play for public dungeons, dolmens and world bosses, and with no interest in PvP or other sense of competitiveness. The game looks great and runs very smoothly on both my computers with very few issues encountered since PC launch. It's a pretty decent game for me, and my main MMO home but with other games played as well in order to keep things fresh.

Roleplay, or mosty waiting and keeping hope for a good RP is what keeping me log in everyday.

I'd like to pvp sometime, when there isn't any RP. But I feel like I waste lots of time playing horse riding simulating rather actually fighting. As a battle leveled player, I don't have many chance to survive roaming alone. I usually have to afk so even if I join a group for better survival chance, I still can't keep up with them and was left behind playing horse riding again. This is why I wish ESO had some kind of "quicky" arena pvp. 1vs1, 2vs2, 4vs4, 8vs8, 12vs12... 10-15m each match. Quick, balance, WORKED group finder, so I can just hop in and fight.

My answer is also RP. I have so much roleplay I want to do, so many ideas and so little time! I could never do everything I want to in ESO because I love PvE, PvP and RP all!

Seriously, you never run out of content with RP because other RPers will always keep making more. I haven't even been to Imperial City but once because every time I get on there some sort of event or storyline to get into.

Raiding (Trials) is the meat that keeps me alive and kicking in the game. It's a massive stuff and great motivation to constantly improve yourself - both on skills and character building. Also, enjoying small-scale/solo PvP (duels, ganking). You simply can't get bored when playing with an intelligent (as some say) opponent instead of preprogrammed AI.

I hit Vet 16 a week or so ago and I only a few days ago cleared everything in Craglorn with two other friends.

Now we're attempting Vet Dungeons, we got close to darkshade but one of us had to leave when we got to the giant netch.

The struggle of dif time zones.

    PvP is there too.

The most wonderfully-realized representation of Tamriel yet. Given that the ES universe is one of my favorite settings ever, that's enough for me. The game itself does lots right and some things less-than-perfectly. This is going to be true of almost any project so ambitious. Then again, I am the "stop to smell the flowers" type, so I don't get as caught up in achievement-chasing or worrying about being competitive. Not that there is anything wrong with those play styles... I just have a lot more fun focusing on the RPG part and less on the MMO part.

In regard to gear sets: I agree that one thing that could really add a lot to the game across the board would be a greater level spread for every set and more sets in general. I love the way sets work and the itemization in general, but more viability across a broader range of levels would encourage more diversity imo.

I had the game at launch on Xbox One. Final Fantasy XIV and DC Universe (both on PS4) were competing for my MMO game time against ESO. I had hoped Microsoft would have given Square-Enix the green light to port Final Fantasy XIV over to Xbox One. Sadly, they said no. Dreams being crushed, I turned to my PS4 as primary system of choice while getting rid of my Xbox One.

Getting rid of the Xbox meant that I had no access to ESO, so I was going to get it on PS4. Unfortunately, since I'm subscribed to FFXIV, and I really don't want to pay another $60+ for ESO (I'm prefer digital, along with ESO PLUS), I have no other motivation to get it on PS4.

There was a recent sale to get the base game at $41.99 on PS4, but that weekly sale was on my non-pay week, so I didn't grab it. Honestly, if there was another sale right now, I'll get it and be on ESO again while FFXIV sit to the side.

Thanks for all the replies. I do like the game for the most part there are somethings that they adapted in the name of multiplayer I don't think they needed to but I recognize that there was effort put into the game. The first 64 levels in particular before things became a item advancement system. Yes I pvp, yes I run pledges although I refuse to farm if I get the helm cool if not I will make due, hoping to run a guild event in Craglorn later so will see how that goes. I am looking forward to Orsinium but I will just renew my plus membership to see if I like the first iteration they put on live. After discussion I think I will give the Phoenix set a try so that is another portion of trying to keep my stones in IC. As to the comment about not needing the full five set I agree but I always try to have one combination that will give me the set ability.

My motivation is just the pure love of the game. First time i logged on in beta, it was love at first sight, which hasn't waned at all, even to this day.

I love trials, pledges, vdsa, vwgt/prison and vanilla pvp, not IC.

And especially my guilds and fellow guildies.

The best part of an MMORPG is it never ends. The only time it ends is when you are done with it. Not Zenimax's or anyone else's fault when someone decides they are done, but then again it isn't always necessarily a bad reason either.
