It depends on what your goals are. As Nestor said you can do fine if you're not in the min/max crowd or want to 1vx everybody. You may have to find a like-minded guild for group dungeons and such. For the bulk of the game tho, it won't be an issue.
One of mine is an Argonian Templar, btw. V15 atm.
I know what i want to do but am so bewildered by the scope of choices that even though i've been playing for a long time (casual) i've never got a character past lvl 11,
i want to play an orc/argonian with 2 hander/bow with heavy armour, but know there wont be much synergy in that set up,
but it's what i like the idea of the most, i'm not a caster player more of a rogue BUT the NB just doesn't seem right,
i've read ppl say racials don't mean much but when you look deeper most guides more or less tell you what to play race wise.

Grant it while their racial passives aren't min/max'y like a Bretons would be, I have enjoyed the challenge of playing a race that doesn't have passives that benefit your resource pull. I have a breton templar healer that I play the same exact way as the argonian and to be honest, I don't notice that much of a difference in resource management. All depends on how you want to play the game!
It's when i look at the imp passives and think an extra 12% health and 10% stamina and a 10% chance of health back with each hit are very good stats if you're max lvl.
You can't argue that they are very good stats.

But they don't help me with Magic.....
Imperial does have some good base racial passives, but only if your Stamina Based or a Tank (which I do some Tanking on my Imp Dragon Knight) do they really help you. But I am definitely playing against type with that character. Heck, I tank more with my Breton Sorcerer on Light Armor or my Altmer Templar than I do with my Imperial.

Well considering i wanted to roll a 2hander/bow yes stamina was where i wanted to go.
Argonians, we all know their racials are a little rubbish, so why on earth did zenimax put them in game/give them such rubbish passives,
given that i am so tempted to roll one just for the hell of it, on the strength that eveywhere i go on forums i se lots of posts about racial passives which class to take for what damage etc etc.
When i first started WOW many years ago i rolled a troll rogue just coz hardly anyone else did, and stuck with him for 5 years.
Will i be seriously hurt in doing so?
If racial stats don't matter then why are they even in game??
thats what i'd like to know.
