What is permablocking?

It sounds obvious but how is it even effective in any way? Like what skills makes it OP? Does it even have any DPS to even kill players or is the point of the build just to not die at all?

I've never done it, but the way I see it explained is that with enough stamina regen and CP, a player can hold down block indefinitely while block-casting various damaging skills. It doesn't make one invulnerable, but it severely limits the amount of damage one can take while also dealing damage at the same time. I.e. a broken mechanic.

Wrong, and thats the problem with people reading things on the forums rather than actually testing them or dealing with them in game.

"perma-blocking" is where you hold block ( usually as a tank build but some magicka builds made great dps builds with class skills and sword and board ) to take advantage of defense that isnt given to you innately in game. If you havent noticed armor doesnt do jack *** against damage in this game, thats ANY type of armor. Now the real problem that popped up with this blocking fiasco wasnt the blocking itself its the lack of game knowledge and an initiative to counter it.
We had the same problems when the game first came out, giving rise to all of the DK is OP bs and the consistent nerfing to our class ever since, because people just dont want to take the initiative to roll out of a banner or shoot snare and burn down a dk's stamina pool to relieve their defenses because they cant do anything to you while standing in their banner... unless you are in it with them.

"block casting" holding block and taking advantage of the unintended mechanics that also allow you to ANIMATION CANCEL, which has been openly admitted by zenimax that it was unintended but good for the game, to block and cast certain direct dmg/dot dmg skills while still retaining a modicum of defense in a game where you cant do jack *** to defend yourself (if only because of lag, bugged mechanics, or just the lack of foresight by the developers to foresee that sometimes those big red *** circles you just have no chance to get out of in PVE)

Now Im not stating that these didnt cause problems in game there had been, in concert with broken mechanics, people taking advantage of them, like every other mechanic in game, since the game released. However, predominantly the blocking wasnt even the problem, it was a lack of knowledge of how mechanics work and any type of will to counter those mechanics. Causing many inept people to cry for developer intervention and "fixes" to game mechanics that ultimately DIDNT NEED "FIXED". Now we have a broken *** game that I have absolutely no urge to log in to and it is currently leaking subscribers and players like a sieve.

Or just hold block forever and spam flame whip until dead.

Permablock dks canceled skills with block and case other while blocking were this:

    invasion ->block(whip)->block(whip)-talons->block(whip) -> block(whip) target dead.

The issue from this arises in the fact that you can build around the fact that you know the majority of time you will be mitigating a hard 50% of all damage sent your way and you have GDB to heal you and Wings to reflect and projectile.

As wisherr stated though, there are clear counters to this build and its playstyle, but they require forethought and people to alter their playstyle to combat these guys.

    Unfortunately you also have

the shield stacking sorcs ( CC to break shields, high burst needed)
the BoL stamplars (CC and high burst plus dodge/reflect)
the perma dodge NB (CC and sustain needed)
the prox det/ambush nb (Must have sustain, they have low health so just live through the ambush)
the perma fear/ambush/killers blade nb (Break the fear and sustain, if there is lag you are dead)
the petrify/wrecking blow spam DK (same as perma fear, if you are lagged you are dead)
the healer with a jesus beam magic DK (annoying when they are in the back of the group, 1v1 easy)
Infinitank DK (meh this is just annoying they can't kill you)

I bring this up because blockcasting wasn't the "problem". The problem is the abilities in the game working together in such ways that people can figure out really unbalanced and unfair mechanics to use especially against players that don't know any better.

Who's fault is that? That depends on your opinion of course.

Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I still don't see how what I wrote here was wrong. Yes, I kinda mashed up perma-blocking and block-casting, but that's honestly where most of the uproar from perma-blocking came from. In pve, people like the ability to perma-block, but in pvp, those that get block-casted get all butthurt. My opinion that perma-blocking in a broken mechanic may be flawed, but I certainly didn't give any misinformation. Now tell me, how is what I wrote wrong?
