Is there any reason to get the 42k horses? (Console)

Since supposedly ALL horses are completely cosmetic with absolutely no extra/hidden bonuses now.

If you want a certain look, yes. If you don't care what the horse looks like, no.

42k is so random. How do you jump from 10 to 42?

Honestly? No. When they gave statistical advantages, then there might've been. However, even at the time, it would've meant starting over from scratch if it wasn't on an alt. Right now, you're just paying 42k for the cosmetic appearance which is very strange. I'd have expected them to drop those prices, given that there's no longer a reason for them to be so high. They didn't though.

It's an ancient relic left in the game when you were able to buy a horse with a proper stat setup. 42k horses had +10 to either speed, stamina or capacity (thus allowing to reach level 70 and not 60 with that particular stat) while 10k horses didn't have any bonus at all. It was worth it then.

This is a matter of opinion. I always felt the +10 to one attribute was not enough to make a 42K horse worth it. Looking at the options long term, buying the cheap horse ASAP and starting to upgrade ASAP was preferable. Fully upgraded cheap horse would be attained much sooner and without throwing any money away by swapping horses midstream. The +10 just wasn't that big a difference maker to me.

    60, not 70...

Well, 70 stamina, 60 capacity, or 75 speed. But, you know. You could still only put 50 points into your horses total back then... so... there was a point.

It was to push players into buying the Imperial Edition which was the quickest and cheapest gold to get a mount....

It's pointless now since the mounts today are just "skins".

The 10K horse used to be 17K, so it was always a jump from 17K to 42K. The 17K horse dropped in price the same time the crown store came out and you could buy mounts for real money, so presumably they reduced that price in order to avoid the impression that they were making mounts unreasonably expensive in order to force people into spending real money on mounts. Presumably they never reduced the price of the 42K horses because it's still a gold sink (of which there are very few in the game), and people who are willing to pay extra for cosmetic items will still be willing to pay the 42K for them, while people who don't care about cosmetics have the 10K horse anyway.

Wait....so now you can level any and every horsse 180 times and reach 60 speed, 60 stam and 60 capacity and none of them carry a bonus over the lvl cap or start you with some points toward one of the skills? The descriptions make it sound like certain horses are going to be better at certain tasks wheather through a cap bonus or starting bonus....which would make sense.

Yes, each can now get to 60/60/60 (although it's actually your character getting to 60/60/60, so that will apply to any mount that he uses) and there is no longer any difference in the stats between any of the mounts. This was done at the same time the crown store came out, and it was done partly to avoid having any of the crown store mounts be B2W (giving them different stats would inevitably result in people saying that one or another of them would be B2W), and partly so that you can freely buy new mounts without having to level the mount individually (so that you're more likely to look at a new crown store mount and say "hey, I'll buy that" instead of saying "I'd love to buy that, but I don't want to level a new mount").
