I have been vamp since day one, but haven't used the active skills since I was a lowbie and running through quests solo. The active skills are pretty useless to me, but I keep vamp specifically for the passives. I have even grit my teeth through the ridiculous amount of fire damage, b/c I liked those passives. It looks like the weakness to fire may finally be reduced to a more reasonable amount with this new patch, but I may sadly still end up dropping vamp all together if I can no longer use the passives without taking up an oh-so-precious skill slot. It's just really disappointing - vamps have never been OP except with very certain class-specific builds (of which I am not), and I hate that it keeps getting nerfed for everyone in such ways.
But you do get the weaknesses all the time.
I'm not entirely sold on having to slot a vampire ability to get the benefits. Are the vampire abilities so bad compared to other choices that you wouldn't slot one? Basically they're saying:
1. You will get weaknesses no matter what.
2. You can get some benefits; but, only if you use one of these less attractive skills over some more desire ones.
I would prefer:
1. You will get weaknesses and the benefits ( you're trading a + for a - ).
2. Here's some skills use them if they're a fit your fight/play style (not make it mandatory).
