I find when im in dwemer ruins i often would check the little pots and urns and such and now and again i would find a dwemer motif in one of the urns.

for the normal one i found a few in back packs next to the mage guild lore books, and most the rest in little containers as KiraTsukasasay said. never found one in furniture but it wouldnt suprise me

still don't know where to find deadra or imperial. probably craglorn if i ever reach that VR

every motif ive found so far was either in an urn or backpack sometimes if in a dwemer area the dwemer jug things

Any landscape container (not crafting node) has a chance to drop them IIRC - except the dwemer motifs which have to be a container of the dwemer type.

The new motifs in Imperial City I think come from daily crafting quests and chests in IC itself.

There's two new motifs coming with the IC. Glass, and Xyvkyn.

Glass will come in page fragments from turning in writs. It'll be a random possible drop from writ reward boxes. Gluing the page fragments together into a single page will require Metheric Resin, which is a 25k item that will be sold by one of the vendor types (I forget which one).

Xyvkyn will be available as a drop (by page, I think) from the treasure vaults in the IC. I'm not sure if they can drop from all chests in the IC or just ones in the vaults, though.

Like others have said; check all of those Wardrobes, Trunks, Nightstands, various other containers, etc.

I always loot the Banks personally. They always seem to have a good shot at something higher value in their containers. last night I looted an Orc Motif from the bank in Riften.

Even if I don't get a Motif, i usually get a blue treasure or two, which does wonders for my Legerdemain score when sold to a Fence.

For a while I actually thought they'd become much rarer than before. Except I'd been playing in veteran zones, where they really are inredibly rare. Went into non-vet zones and found two regular (blue) motifs within the hour.

So yeah, it seems for blue motifs search drawers, wardrobes, desks, nightstands, trunks and such in non veteran zones. In veteran zones...........I've not found enough to see any pattern.

The thing with vet zones is, they cull out the blues. You can't get a blue motif drop up there, but you can get the purples, which are much rarer.
