Soooo, i've been getting this error for about a month now, regularly, but not ALWAYS. Yesterday i tried every single suggested option that the official support lists here: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6486

None of those worked. I even uninstalled, killed everything i could find for the game, and did a fresh install and i STILL get this crap about 7/10 times i launch. Even a few times trying to run as admin. I have tried shutting down my firewalls and making sure no AVs are running in the background as well.

I've pretty much given up hope that this will be "fixed" by Zeni any time soon, and i can see that the problem isn't just happening to me, and most people with it are having the same sporadic results with the "fixes".

Is there a way to play the game without having to use the launcher?

You can run the game from the eso.exe file and bypass the launcher. The only time most of us use the launcher is on patch day. The rest of the time we use the eso.exe to play since they can't seem to fix the 209 errors with the launcher. You can find the file under Zenimax Online > The Elder Scrolls Online > game > client.

This seems to be a persistent problem that many players are experiencing. I see the error constantly, and even though I've followed the so-called "fix" in the support knowledge base, it doesn't go away. I hear talk about it in guild chat, and even my brother experiences it and all he's done in the last 3months is allow updates to occur as he plays witcher 3.

This is so obviously a ZOS problem that they need to address. In the meantime, skip the launcher and run the game from the executable.

This problem has not occurred for me and my wife since the NA PC maintenance on 8/17, so it appears to be fixed.
We have logged on multiple times every day, and no 209 error yet.
Must've been a server-side problem since there was no patch.
