Is there a way to build a viable hybrid character??

simontheriault1b16_ESO
If yes: How? and if no: Should Zos find a way to make them viable?
I just love chaos!

I'm not sure what you mean by viable hybrid character, so I'll state that I think you mean either a character that can perform multiple roles such as healers and tanks, or a character that can switch between Magic or Stamina builds. If I misunderstood your OP, then comments that follows are meaningless.

If you want to be competitive at PVP, or not be carried in trials and veteran dungeons than the quick answer is no.

The reason is that damage is base on your maximum magic or stamina. The other problem is resource management; The higher your attribute is, the more you can use that resource.

I know several players who place all their attributes points on health so that they can switch armor and weapon sets to change from a one role to another, but the character will never be as powerful and one dedicated to a particular role.

Any finally, its easier to become more proficient with a character designed for one role, than having one character become a jack of all trades. One of the reasons you have eight character slots is so you can dedicate characters for different roles.

Yes, pretty easily. You take skills from stamina and magicka and slot them both on your bar.

The problem with the mono-builds is the idea that you need to be doing the most damage possible with either weapon power or spell power. The tradeoff is, you've only got one resource pool to pull from. So you can get characters that can survive in a fight longer, or have more versatility, but don't quite hit the same DPS margins.

ZOS is already looking at beefing them up. Granted, that's going to be more of an endgame thing right now. The prismatic enchantments will offer a smaller boost than the current mono-stat armor runes, but then will buff all three stats (apparently), and, at least according to one of the Live broadcasts, they're planning on doing more to beef up hybrid builds in the future. Though, I don't know what, exactly, they have in mind.

.. or do you mean 50:50 stamina dps : magicka dps ?

Depends on what you mean by viable ?

Are you pushing an agenda here ?
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

Man, I remember the werepires... those were stupid, and I am glad they got patched out... unless you're telling me you could slot Mistform on the werewolf bar... because that would be hilarious.

I meant stam/magicka DPS by hybrid, I used to run one with some success in 1.5 with the softcaps being on. I was wondering if one could make one that is still working for pulling a good DPS end game ( trials, VDSA, etc)

I'm not sure about trials, but I've been dragging a hybrid NB and hybrid sorc into small scale PvP with a fair amount of success. Now, in both cases, that could just be it really screws up the players who are geared to deal with cookie cutters, and don't know what to do when a NB has a click heal or a sorc can take a beating without barriers. But, it does seem to work.

I've tried playing it with my Templar as a tank. Enough magicka to use Javelins and enough stamina to do some shield bashing. The build works but I never felt as comfortable playing it as I do pure magicka or pure stamina. Frankly a magicka Templar is probably the easiest PvE class to play. It's basically "spam button for Javelin until everything is dead walk to the next mob and repeat." With a hybrid build you have to judge each fight, decide if you've got enough damage to plow into the fight, or if you're going to have to go for sustain and wear them down with your sword while healing occasionally. A lot will change when Vigor drops to Rank 5 in the Alliance skill line. Then you'll have all sorts of stamina options you didn't have before. For example, use magic for damage on a sorcerer and use stamina for heals instead of relying on Critical Surge or shards and the dark magic passive for healing.

Honestly, I don't think Clanfear abuse is in any danger of being replaced by Vigor.

The TSPCD (Tamriel Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Daedra) might have to do something about that. Personally I got tired of that silly dino sucking up slots on both bars so I'm going shields and critical surge. I'm mopping the floor with everything at VR3 so far. I'll see how it does in gold in a few days.

Hybrid build = jack of all trades, master of none. You can do it, but you won't excel at either.

What I've found kind of amusing in small scale PvP is, the Clanfear works as a bloodhound, chasing down sorcs that try to bolt escape away, and leading you right to whatever hiding place they picked to wait for their Magicka to regen.
