Why most magicka DKs go HA instead of LA?

I've been hearing that the magicka DK meta is Heavy Armor, but why? Is it because of the 20% decreased stamina while blocking?
With LA I can use Martial Knowledge for two extra spell damage bonuses and I can complement it with Torug's Pact. What combination of HA sets could match the spell damage of the LA set and the magicka regeneration/cost reduction of LA passives?

Basically for blocking. Mitigation too, but mostly blocking.

Since 1.6 you can stack regeneration values sky high, so you can still cast a lot even without the light armour bonuses which you can recover a lot from using CP's. And PvP is all about balancing defense and offense, so heavy works well for DK's and Templars too since they do not have the escapability of NB's and Sorcerers.

There are a few sets you can use, and it doesn`t have to be 5 heavy 2 light, or 5 light 2 heavy etc. you could go with a 4 heavy, 2 light 1 med, or 4 heavy 3 light, 4 light 2 heavy, 1 med etc.

for sets , you could go stormknight neck, chest, legs, rings cryodill light, 3 martial knowledge, 2 tourgs pact , with Sword and shield potantes for extra stam regen, on one bar and dual wield , staff, 2H etc on other,

Or you could go neck gloves, belt Arch mage, for magik recovery and spell damage, rings cryodill light, 4 magnus, 1 torg pact, then if dual wield, or S+B 1 weapon torg pact, other magnus for 5 set , then second bar staff, 2H of torg pact or S+B tog/mag

Or you could go a mixture of Magnus, torg pact and. Adronitness and cryodill light

there are a lot combos of gear you can run depending on personal choice and what you have access too.

if you want to sit back and ping people with high staff damge u can do that in the sets you mentioned. but if they close with you you are screwed.

generally pvp isnt about max damage. its about a balance between damage, survivabilty and sustaining resources. I use a set like u mentioned for pve dps and occasionally for a change of style in pvp keep defence etc. In pvp tho taking a small damage loss for MUCH more resistance and more recovery if u use sets like magnus seducer and healer is a no brainer to me.

stealthed heavy attacks followed by shock spam can be amusing tho on unprepared players.

not really i use 5l/2h and use a s+shield switch, i can still out last and dps a nightblade by whipping him to death if he comes close.

^This. If you don't rely on destro staff attacks only, you pretty much have to go into melee range all the time. Heavy works very well, you get the damage and sustain from skills + CP.

Because nirnhoned heavy armor negates the super spellpower/pen builds that became FOTM once 1.6/2.0 dropped

It doesnt stop the bugged armor pen stamcrap builds because they are broken, but it eliminates half of the problem.
