Trait discussion; should traits be inconveniently, completely random?

Should traits be random on gear? Should traits be random but pulling from a small pool of random traits which accommodate individual set bonuses?


For instance;


Reinforced shield is great, should the five piece heavy armor set all be Reinforced in order to accommodate a set clearly designed for taking damage and not sprinting? Maybe a pool of random traits; Reinforced, Infused and Divines for people whom like to build differently.



Reinforced on a light hat? Divines, Infused would be better?

But arguments could be made for all three; simple solution - make the possible random traits only be Reinforced, Divines and Infused - with no Well-Fitted, Sturdy and certainly no training.



Divines on legs!? Beautiful! Well, why not make this trait for light legs and this set specifically rotate through Divines, Infused and maybe Reinforced or something.

If ZoS is completely opposed to eliminating random traits, why not make all the possible random traits, not that bad?

Each set has a pool of traits which may or may not be rolled, Leeching for instance good be Reinforced, Infused and Divines - reinforced will be most wanted commonly, but the others wont be completely terrible as you continue to re-roll your items in a similar way to Diablo 3, except the only way to re-roll traits is by repeating content a severe amount of times.

Magicka based sets could be Infused & Divines, sometimes even on heavy to augment the offensive properties.

What are your thoughts and feelings on completely random traits, could the system be improved by making individual sets and armor types have smaller pools of traits, no Sturdy, no Training with minimal use of Well-Fitted. We can't change traits ourself, so I believe making a smaller pool on a set-by-set, case-by-case basis could be a welcome quality of life improvement, this would make the task of re-rolling gear not that inconvenient and intimidating.

Remember, they've gotta toss Sturdy into that pool of random traits, just to show how much they love us.

This seems like a nice compromise OP, but would have to be implemented differently by level, zone, etc. It's a great idea for boss and vet dungeon drops, but I'd say not really necessary under level 50/VR. Not sure how difficult this would be for them to change though.

I prefer exploration myself. Upgraded to legendary wearing 8/8 Exploration will give you an 80% experience bonus every time you discover a new area. We're talking like a bonus of 400 exp here people....discover 1000 places and its a free CP point!

(Seriously though...why does this trait even freaking exist?? I know maybe in the design stages it was a fun filler idea....but seriously just replace it with your next new useful trait idea because it has absolutely zero functional use to anyone with a brain)

Common guys, be reasonable. The 1 intern who is responsible for all itemization and set code is under enough pressure as it is, its not like they have a team of professional developers and game designers to work on this stuff.

Well-fitted and sturdy should be removed. Exploration on end game gear is insulting.

We all know why it's like this. You play longer trying to get just the right trait on the gear you want.

I do agree some traits should be level reserved and some could have a higher chance per armor type. However I doubt they will put any work into this in the near future.

Here is a better suggestion:

How about ZoS update and put in some reform to make all the worthless traits nobody wants -the list is extensive: sturdy, charged, training, weighted, well-fitted, exploration, powered, et al are just bad - into something that is legitimately interesting, different, and might open the door to new and dynamic builds.

It's been over a year and half.

Ehh...Well-fitted is pretty awesome. A ton of builds (including mine) bank on it.

Weighted has its uses as well for some builds as does powered but those are small use cases.

Training is great to have for levelling your skills so it has a place (but shouldn't be included on any end-game gear that is valuable or difficult to acquire).

Sturdy, Charged, and exploration are all pretty useless though.

I just "LOVE" the exploration trait on VR14 footman gear.
Its so useful and practical when you are VR14 endgem, and you already explored every single game content while you were lvling up to VR11 in cadwell zones.
That exploration on VR14 gives you so much.

Yes that was sarcasm ZOS.
The traits should not be random or players should be allowed to somehow influence the trait they get on gear. Noone in sane mind would put exploration on the end-game gear.

Agreed, but exploration is actually pretty useful for leveling alts. With 7/7 exploration gear you easily get a pretty good amount of extra exp just from visiting all locations on a map (where you'd be going anyways to grind, quest, dolmen, etc), especially if you have an exp potion going.

I spent 7000 tv stones and bought random phoenix set boxes

I got a few good and a few bad traits, but what was interesting is that some of the armor had a stamina enchant on it haha

On light armor set pieces

Fyi, that 5 effect thing when you die and then come back to life has made no difference at all when fightinh mobs, i was dead again within 1 sec......

Well-fitted should actually grant a small movement bonus.

Can you tell me of the competitive builds that "weighted" and "powered" have a perceptible effect so that justifies its overall poor performance that makes otherwise decent sets undesirable?

My vote is rework traits so more are legitimately useful.

Rework the traits so all are useful, add a legendary item in game that a crafter can use to change a trait on gear. Rather than have crafters always having to compete with dropped gear, make them a great part of improving dropped gear.

Traits need balance and the garbage ones need to go. Just remove Exploration, Sturdy, and Training from dropped Armor and Charged, Powered, and Training from dropped Weapons. Possibly buff Well-Fitted, Defending, and Weighted. Every armor/weapon drop in the game (besides Masters Weapons I guess) has a random chance of getting any trait.

It would be even better if they made the other traits equally useful. (No zos this doesn't nerf the good ones.)

They need to allow master crafters(every single trait researched) to change traits at high cost.

So how about this;

All low quality loot, White [maybe Green too?] is only able to drop with terrible traits - this means new players can still get research goods, old players too, occasionally.

Exploration, Charged, Powered, Sturdy, Training, Weighted, Well-fitted being terrible traits.

All dropped gear such as blue, purple and gold can only come with good traits respectively. [maybe green too?]

As ZoS is so opposed to making us farm an item which would then be used to change traits. I can only see something like this working being RNG too. Honestly don't understand why ZoS doesn't demand us to farm X item for 100 drops in order to randomise a trait.

With how enthusiastic about putting RNG onto RNG, it wouldn't suprise me if they added an RNG game feature like this on-top of RNG already.

It's tragic being bullied by anti player-friendly game design and game systems.
