Tanking in ESO; The truth and a few questions

Hello all

I just started ESO.
As I prerer the tank role in MMO's I decided to read up before made a character.
Now I did read some contradictions and non resolved issues.
Such as race passives and mechanics.

Most confusing to me is not having knowlage of patches and changed and then reading it all mixed up.

So I hope some can clear a few issues up for me.

1) Is tanking not needed in ESO due to just dmg spam all content.

2) Is lvling with 1h and shield doable. .... and fun?

3) Is stamina the way to go for tanks. Or at least on par with magic.

4) I favor redguard because I planned using a hvy stam built DK.
However a lot of good abilities use magic.
Is redguard not a must have because of stamina gain on items and potions?
I read that you overcap easy. Then I rather go nordfor dmg reduction.

5) If so. I might enjoy Nord better and go 2hnd. to lvl and fun.
is 2 hnd tanking viable in any means?

6) Regarding DK.
Should I foces on 1 of the class trees or mix it up.
For me it is a bit of daunting trying to anticipate the usefull skills for tanking and maintain a decent solo capability.
I tend to favor cc abilities. and there seem to be plenty. I wonder if the utility of sword and shields beats the raw power of 2hnd.

7) Is endgame pve content enjoyable.

8) How do you experience the attitude of other players.
Friendly... hardcore... rage and noobcalling?

9) I need to read up on synergy. Anyone in the mood to educate me in a reply is much appreciated.

Well that was a bit less coherent then I hoped.
Hope anyone is able to aid me in the right directon

Other than PvP 1v1 or 1v2/3 and chasing Leaderboard times for Trials, you can make any race, build and gear load out work for any content. Some will be more challenging, some will not.

Tanking is more important in Group Dungeons, and mostly in the Vet Dungeons. Oh, and the Trials are good to have a tank too. For everything else, it's more a playstyle than a role, in that a Tanky character will wade into the mobs and wail away while surrounded by them as opposed to using say ranged DPS from a Destro Staff or Bow or hit and run tactics from a NB.

As usual, Health is the most important stat for a Tank, you can't Tank if your dead.

One handed shield is perfectly doable and perfectly deadly. It is what my VR10 Tank uses when he is not using the Staff.

As for Magic vs Stamina, if you have any points left after making sure you have enough health, then it all depends on your playstyle. Some skills scale from Stamina, some from Magic.

I prefer a Magic Based Tank myself, as then I have all my Stamina for Blocking and magic for attacks.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"

Thanks for your view on this.

Magic vs Stam abilities is something I need to get a feel for.
I do think a DK will benefit most from magic.

In a MMO I get my kick out of engaging boss fights and large mob battles.
I therefore always try to prepare to avoid getting left out due to missing some skill or such when reaching end game.

Mmmz Nord or Redguard sword and Shield tanking.
    More reading needed
