Elemental Defender or Spell Shield as Vampire?

As topic. Im a Dark Elf Dragonknight Vampire and Im looking for a way to even out the increased fire damage taken as a Vampire. In Champion points there are two passives that I believe helps with this, Elemental Defender (http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Elemental+Defender) and Spell Shield (http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Spell+Shield).
Wich of these two would help me negating the increased fire damage taken as a Vampire? Also is all fire damage considered to be "spell damage"? What is the difference between Elemental Defender and Spell Shield?
If someone could explain the mechanics behind these two Champion passives I would be really grateful.
