ESO: An Anti-social Social Experience.

As I play through the game, I can not helping feeling that I'm playing a single player game, but with multiplayer issues. Truly, the excitement of multiplayer will come in the dungeons and PVP, but for the world itself, there seems to be little for players to really do together. Even when doing quests in a group, you have to do everything yourself to complete it. Does anybody else share this feeling or am I alone on this?

    On wich platform?
And also, yea, ESo still preserves the RPG part of the MMORPG title.
Aaaand for some reason it was made that most main story instances are 'Solo'... but yea.

Myself, i never had any problem with any sort of loneliness but I see where you wanted to get at :yum:
Anyway, regardless of your game version you'd still be able to try and coordinate 'some' group experience, even if only at the world exploration or dungeons

I remember teaming up with people to take down world bosses when the game first launched. It wasn't really teaming up with them, but rather waiting for the WB to respawn with about 30 other people waiting.

Leveling in any mmo is a solo experience. Over the years people complained about needing to group to do pretty much anything in an mmo and how inconvenient it was. As a result games made it easier and easier to do leveling content and nowadays you have to wait till end game for any real group experience. Likely this trend is why gamers feel rushing to end game is the best way to play mmos as that is when a game becomes worth playing to many.

I also get that feeling, but I rather like it. I get a bit of excitement when a werewolf player runs by.

I do get annoyed when im in an crafting rich area or creature heavy and others come and swoop up what im going for. This way i rarely encounter such situations.

When i get too lonely i go to PvP and find a few people to fight. Some times a whole group surrounds and kills me, the lonliness is gone right away ;)

If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

No idea what you talking about? Never felt anything like this. For Undaunted dailies people make groups and play together, why you cant find anyone to play you know better than us. In PvP, everyone play to kill other, so its normal to be killed by enemy faction.

Yeah, agreed. Recently tried to get a friend back into ESO. Even leveled a new character to have one on his level, but there was nothing worthwhile we could do together. The areas that are good for exp are hopelessly overrun, and we don't even have to talk about loot.

Technically a solid player can solo all of craglorn too, except that one place where you need 3 people to stand on floor tiles to open a door.

I did pretty much all of it solo =/ Didnt have much choice at the time, since the great grindfest of anomalies was in full force and effect at the time.

You need to do more on your end man.

Go to area chat, you will get picked up in a 24 group in NO TIME.

Go to town, shoot people group invites, ask for a guild to join (you will get TONS on invites thrown at you)

Honestly, like 10% of effort from you will land you tons of people to play with....

    I agree with you.

Questing in groups really stinks. Some things count, others do not. Someone skips dialog, you miss it if grouped.

A massive Multiplayer world that is best spent by yourself.

If you are doing a quest In a group, you can usually 'share' the quest within your group so everyone does not have to repeat the same thing after each other. This of course, does not include the main story.

You need to find "friends" that share your interests to go a similar path, same as real life , a rare thing ...
Commitment and team spirit is the key, I love "hard working" for my guild , but I barely know games with appealing or motivating group concepts.

Its easy to do it, but Theme park MMOs are designed for the anonymous mass that wants guiding, less thinking and less helping in terms of independeny.

My advice, try or wait for a real sandbox, a niche where most Theme park players cannot survive. It doesn't matter, the core community is very strong and you always find very team oriented guilds where leechers or solists are not welcome.

There is a whole bunch of quests that can share tasks between group members. Like find 3 items and group can spread out.

There are quests where you cant do it without group because you have to press switches all at once, or activate something from both sides.

I'm just going to point out something that bothers me. The term antisocial does not have to do with the amount of people you socialize with. It has to do with how you treat people.

You have a point. Apart from dungeons, I've not needed to group up. I jumped in on a couple of world bosses and public dungeons. I've joined a nice guild with some guys that have helped with research and gear. I've enjoyed the dungeons very much but there isn't enough of them, and waiting for group to fill is frustrating. Not played pvp yet so can't comment on them.

Compared to some other MMOs I play, there is more of a playing-alongside other players, rather than playing with... Don't get me wrong, I love the game in many ways, but I think the full social potential is yet to be tapped.

    More dungeons please!

That said, I'm in 5 guilds and I have lots of friends playing the game.

Maybe you're just not doing it right?

I'm getting really sick of people branding the entire game one thing or another just because of the way they play.
In the end it's not everyone else's responsibility to make you feel welcome and hold your hand.
    Get out there, make friends.

Or are you driving them all away with your negative attitude?

Kind of a blunt way to say it but many of these posts are hard to believe.

Sooooo many people are in there. Solo many guilds... offer to make someone some armor or a potion or food or whatever and usually people see you being nice and want to be around you more.

The only thing I would like that would encourage grouping more, is harder world bosses, dark anchors and delves. They are so easy to solo, that for me there is literally no reason for me to group, as other people just slow me down if anything.

The switch from PC to PS4 has certainly felt difficult with voice chat the only way to "easily" communicate
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

I have the chat of five guilds - among them alone four 500-members-trade-guilds - running in the background, I never feel lonely while questing, but I enjoy it from time to time to do something not grouped, be it fishing, be it just being able to go afk when I want.

I have to say I enjoy it that there is no need to really group up even for anchors and overworld bosses. Sure you might need a second guy sometimes for an overworld or public dungeon boss, but there is no need to group, because no kill stealing based on first aggro in this game. I have to say I like it that way.
