I too just got the game on my xbox.

I don't know how to use a repair kit.

To assign something to the quick slots. Go into your in and then choose a consumable and press X. It will bring up the ring and you can choose which slot to use.

For magic and abilities. In your skills you hover over the ability you have unlocked. Press X to assign and then press left and right until you are hovering over which ability button you want to press to activate it.

Just remember, Repair Kits are the most expensive way to repair your gear. In game Vendors will do this for a lot less money if you compare the prices of 7 Repair Kits vs paying a Vendor to Repair them. You don't have to go back to town for a Merchant, there are always ones walking the roads. Usually near a wayshrine.

They make the most sense in PvP or Trials where getting to a merchant is not always easy or something you can do.

Also, while leveling, you may not even want to repair gear, just replace it with what you get from loot drops. You can sell the damaged stuff to a Vendor for the same prices as undamaged.

select the item you wish to repair and click repair, I have no clue how the console interface works though. Imagine its the same selection process as recharging or enchanting a weapon.

On PC, you look at a piece of gear that's damaged and right-click and you get options like:

    Charge
    Enchant
    Repair
    Destroy

And when you select repair it will bring up a screen with the corresponding repair kit for the level of your gear and you select it and press E to complete the action.

Not sure how that works on Console, but if you use whatever command you use to enchant or charge, it should be the same.

Wish I knew something about how the controllers do things. On PC it's a matter of right click the piece of equipment on your "paper doll" guy in inventory screen, then you get a menu where you can choose various options, including repair, enchant, charge (for weapons that have enchants like fire that need to be charged with soul gems).

Maybe that will at least send you in the right direction :)

adding: I hate seeing you guys having to struggle with this basic stuff because ZOS didn't give you a Zone chat where this could be answered in 15 seconds.
