tl;dr- In most MMO, bigger stats == more skill. That's the mentality. Add limitless progression, and Seniority == skill. Whoever starts first wins. At least with a progression cap, people CAN eventually reach an even playing field so player skill can start to matter again, and not just numbers.
I've noticed so many people saying the idea of CP, and the idea that newer players will likely never catch up to them because of it, is a GREAT idea and that anyone who doesn't like it is just entitled and wants everything handed to them.
I find this particular point of view highly amusing, since the number one argument against CP is actually that CP REDUCES RELIANCE ON ACTUAL PLAYER SKILL from the game.
Player A has been playing for a year, gaining CP every day. He plays 10 hours a day, every day. He is the very definition of hardcore. He has lots of CP after 1 year.
Player B joins the game a year later. He plays 10 hours a day, every day. He is the very definition of hardcore. He has CP, but has 1 year's worth of CP less than Player A.
Both players are hardcore, both players are skilled... player B may even be MORE skilled. It's irrelevant. Player B will always be a year behind Player A, and will lose only for that reason. They will never truly get to compete with each other, because player B is automatically given a stat handicap against player A, who is given a stat advantage.
But... why? Is player A really so weak of a player that their character needs to be given an advantage over others to make up for it? And can player A call themselves "the best" simply because of seniority?
What's worse is that getting CP will be a hendrance to anyone recognizing your accomplishments. "Look what I did!" "Yea, all that CP you gained did a great job helping you get there!"
