The guide your first replyer posted should help, but in general:

Go to each respective crafting station (Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Clothing). Click 'Use' and you should be met with a menu that allows you to 'Create', 'Deconstruct', etc. Select 'Research' from the menu. From there, browse each item to see if you have any researchable traits available; it should say "Reaearchable" next to a trait if you have an item in your inventory/bank with that trait. Scroll down to the trait and click on it and it will bring you to a menu allowing you to choose the item you want to research. Confirm the item and you'll be told how long it will take to research it.

For example, if you are at a Blacksmithing station and have an Axe with the Precise trait (increased weapon+spell critical values) you'd like to research, click on 'Research', tab over to 'Weapons', find 'Axes', then scroll down to the 'Precise' trait and click on it to research that trait.

never deconstruct before checking to see if you can research it ... on PC you can get an addon that will warn you, on consoles you don't get any warning you are about to deconstruct something you could research
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.
