Haha and the same people are so vocal about great idea of increasing vet ranks. Heh that alone is much more Wow-y (raise lvl cap - grind for new gar) than little detail as customization.

I'd like to see some type of transmogrification system in ESO and I don't think it would turn the game into (any more of) a WoW clone. Especially since WoW was hardly the first game to use a system like this.

What I'd really like is for it to be incorporated into the crafting system: by deconstructing a piece of equipment crafters could learn to make that style (same way they currently learn traits) and then they'd be able to make new equipment with that appearance. Maybe there could also be unique style materials related to it, so for example enemies in a dungeon would have a chance to drop the style material used to make that dungeon's set.

But an alternative, which would be easier to implement, would be something like Guild Wars 2 used to have: you take 2 matching pieces of equipment (e.g. two swords, two heavy helms, you can't make a sword look like an axe) and use a 3rd item to combine them - choosing the stats from one and the appearance from the other. The two originals are destroyed in the process leaving the 1 new item, which is then account bound.

One important facet of both these systems (based on previous objections I've seen) is that it doesn't function as a shortcut or an unfair advantage - you still have to obtain the items you want normally before you can use them. It just gives you more choice in what you wear.

While I can see good arguments on the subject I think being a crafter with different motifs, materials and set crafting are this games way of addressing the issue.

Perhaps in addition to researching traits, they could add in an option to research artwork.

It's not just WoW. Almost every AAA MMO on the market right now (WoW, Rift, GW2, Secret World, Wildstar, etc) have a wardrobe/appearance system in place.

The ESO community is just too hipster for fancy new stuff like that, though, I guess =D

Except that does not help with fugly dropped sets like Footman.

Been asking for this since day 1. Danikat's combining idea is a good one.

Requiring crafters to do the transmogrify would keep them in the loop, and in fact bring more business as people would need the service for every new piece of dropped loot (if they didn't care for the look). Your suggestion for researching artwork would also add to the desirability of the transmogrify process. ZOS could monetize the artwork in the Cash Shop as well (since we all know nothing happens unless there is the ability to nickle/dime).

Yeah let the crafters do this. Sort of like a trade window where you cant trade. Just change the look of an item for someone. So bind on pickup items can be adjusted to look like other similar armor types. Heavy to heavy light to light and that kind of thing.

Simply allow to separately select the level of stats and looks when crafting. E.g. let me craft VR16 sword but let me select the looks of level 10. The looks is actually sort of substyle inside styles. E.g. Altmer sword at level 10 looks different than Altmer VR14 sword.

Currently ESO has freely selectable (after learning motifs) style and fixed substyle. Substyle is strictly tied to level of item. The substyle could be tied to skillpoints. The new skilll tier could open when now crafting automatically switches to new substyle. This way a new crafter can't yet make VR level substyle but maxed crafter could freely select any substyle.

I have not counted how many substyles there actully are, but i guess three to five. So a new crafting skill at five tiers would be all we need and possibility to separately select level and substyle.

It looks better because of item levels. They want to make sure and let you know the next tier of armor/weapons is more amazing and stupendous than the one a couple levels underneath it. The problem is they end up adding so much bling in most MMO's that by the time you get to the top end the armor just lacks any elegance or functionality, and would get you killed if you actually wore it in a real combat situation. I think the worst armor I ever saw (though I'm sure it is beat somewhere) would be the sith inquisitor armor in SWTOR, the one that had all the hooks and fish hooks and dangling bits all over you, thereby ensuring that you would get stuck on everything and everyone as you walked around. It could have made a very hilarious video if someone dressed up in armor like that in real life. The other big and extremely goofy videogame trope is having women or young girls dressed 'for combat' such that you can practically see all their giblets hanging out, but they are prepped for war right? The 'Battle Brassiere' and the 'Ironkini' are some of the most idiotic armor designs ever made. The only reason the Picts ran naked against the Roman Empire is A) They were really uneducated and B) They took way too many hallucinogens to know better. I suspect they would have also fared a lot worse against the Romans had they not been on the outer fringe of the Empire. I realize sex sells and people want to see huge *** bouncing. I can't say I dislike those things either but you can show that outside of combat if you really want to, don't you think? That or you can do like the Picts and Goths and Visigoths did, and get your ass handed to you. Your choice. :P

because you want to have Zenimax increase the coding complexity of ESO when they can't get the current game bug free and working properly ?
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

I do like the Honor guards armor in AvA though. I jut wish ZoS fix the nord helmet though so the eye holes are open instead of nothingness. Like the VR+ nord heavy helm eye holes are open but everything else is jsut black.

They already have the system in place, albeit partially, where you have "appearance" items and/or costumes. If anything, adding costumes of styles should be easily possible, but maybe not every gear piece individually.

***EDIT: To add to this, I've always liked the look of what most people call "trash can" armor sets. I like heavy armor and I'd like to be able to use heavy/light and showcase heavy because I'll be staring at my character longer than anyone else and I want it to be visually pleasing.

TES tends to use "transmuted" as opposed to "transmogrified."

There's a Transmuted Kwama Shell shield in ESO. I do like the idea of rare drop items that you can transmute into armor and weapons. The only problem is that the Kwama shell just looks just like a random shield. I don't see the point in developing a special ability if it's just going to blend in with everything else.

Id like something like this. I recently got my thunderous plate set and its awesome. Sadly though its in the Dunmer style which to me looks ridiculous. I would love to transmute it to Breton style though!

wrong .. the coding to have a completely different toon skin is way different to the coding required to temporarily re-skin individual items worn by a toon.
