Why don't we have an edit button? Who even makes forum software without an edit button? I wouldn't know where to find it if I went looking for it. O_o It's a basic and (I thought) universal feature.

If you are the Original Poster, the edit button is to the right of your topics name. In this case, look to the right of where you wrote "Edit button." - there should be a gear looking thing that lets you edit.

If you are responding to a post, the edit button is beside the post # you are in the thread.

There is. Click the gear-like button at the upper right corner of your own posts and there'll be an option to edit it.

Okay I feel stupid now. Why would I think a gear means edit though? If anything it usually means options. I just assumed it was for thread subscriptions and such. The web designer here has a thing or two to learn about intuitive design.

Edit: Okay, for some reason this post does, but 99% of them don't.
Check your browser extensions. It might be being unintentionally blocked by something like AdBlock, NoScript, an element blocker like YARIP, or so on. It's worth investigating. It would explain the unreliable nature of the icon appearing.

No I just didn't know it disappears unless you're mousing over the post. More seemingly random design decisions.

Gear icons usually are used for general settings or options, which at least for my twisted brain pretty well signifies things like post edit. What I try to say is, it works for some and don't work for others. As usual, there won't be a solution satisfactory for all and everyone. Chalk it down to learning experience or something, that's what I do if I am in such a situation.

I'm pretty sure a button with the word "edit" on it says edit to 100% of people, which is why every forum but this one does it that way.

True, but keep in mind that different levels of forum status have different options, e.g. moderators will have more than just EDIT. If you make a dedicated button for each function, these crowd the posts unnecessarily. A pull down menu is the best choice to prevent such and should be inclusive. The choice of an icon or a word then makes little difference - it will always hide some of the content.

Pull down menus are generally bad practice. They're hard for people using screen readers. Although in this case I doubt many blind people are using the forum for a game that requires sight. As a general rule though it's considered best practice to avoid them.

I'm sure you can, but I didn't. I'm a web developer. It's the general consensus and you're free to check some guides if you want. I don't really care what you think. I saw a discoverability issue and I pointed it out. I'm not here to argue with some random dude about navigation.

The fact that stuff (such as ratings options, quote, edit etc.) disappears when you are not mousing over a post makes this site an utter pita to use on a touchscreen tablet - fair drives me up the wall.

Well ... occupational hazard I think.

I still hate the interface on Windows 8
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Yeah WTF were they thinking trying to use the same OS for tablets and desktops? When Vista came out I literally joked about that happening in the next version. Microsoft has become a self parody at this point.

Well, at least the menus are keyboard navigable and some of the pages are responsive designs. That's about all I'll give credit for though. The site needs work.
