0.8% chance for Perfect Roe. ZOS, REALLY?

Fished another 100 yesterday. Still no roe. So I'm up to 600+ fish now.

Though in other news, after about 60 writs I got a page finally.

Having been here since launch, I watch this forum go through Cycles.

There was the launch cycle. Then the relaunch cycle. And now the Console launch cycle.

In the beginning of each one of these cycles we see threads like "After 6 days I just have to say I LOVE this game!" and threads like this are flamed by ESO fanatics that think it can do no wrong. By the end of the cycle 1/2 of the people who had played for 6 days will have quit. The other half will be frustrated.

Threads like this will be 99% supportive of the OP instead of the "It's gold dude, which means rare dude, which means stfu dude" responses that populate this thread.

It's fun to watch. Cya again on the Free-2-Play cycle.

I get the distinct impression a lot of people think you catch Perfect Roe. You only catch fish. You "use" the fish from within your inventory to skin/filet it, and sometimes you get a Perfect Roe out of that. You will never pull up a Perfect Roe with your fishing rod. Just like you will never get a Tempering Alloy from an ore node. You have to refine the ore and sometimes you will get a Tempering Alloy out of that. You have to do the equivalent of refining the fish to get a Perfect Roe.

My experience so far is I should of just kept grinding mobs...would've been faster than wasting all that time fishing.

Edit: seems like a P2W item. That is, either you pay the real money or have the gold to buy in game. Other than that a waste of time to farm yourself. Easier to farm fragments, sell them and use gold to buy potions.

To answer your question @Cuyler, I averaged 1000 fish a day when farming (8 hours a day). Some can get it higher or lower depending on what they doing on the side (i.e. I was farming nirnhoned between fish nodes). At .8% drop rate, I literally averaged 1 roe every hour of focused fishing (maybe a little less). So at 4 pots a roe, 50% bonus a pot, fishing gives you two hours of xp for around every hour of fishing.

I fish A LOT (been going for the achievement for quite some time before the roe existed) and I dont support the OP. I completely agree with the rarity and the .8% drop rate. Do you have any idea how many fish are filet every day? This is supposed to be something that's completely rare, LEGEND - wait for it - DARY. Guess you will have to buy them from fisherman if you aren't lucky. I sell 5-8 each day so if you need some let me know. My .8% drop rate is treating me well.

Neither have I but if I wanted to and if you want to, nothing's easier. Provisioning can be upped to 50 within 3 hours on any char even your mules (could take a little bit longer for mules since you'd need to collect a bit of skyshards for skill points).

I would suggest for those people having issues finding the recipe frags but want the potions and have been fishing to seek out some people like myself that are offering our services for a small amount of gold to make the potions for you using your mats. I myself ask for only 3k gold to make however many you want at once. There are other players that ask for 2k for set of 4 pots they make for you.

I like to do it over the in game mail system and detail exactly how many pots a person wants and how many mats they sent me. That way the people I deal with are certain they are not going to get screwed and I am not going to run off with their materials.

But honestly, they do need to raise the rates just a bit on the perfect roe and a whole lot on the frags. I have only "found" 1 frag since it released and that is with 3 level 6 writs and 1 level 4 writ and I play every day..

On another note, I did notice today after the patch that there has been a huge increase in the number of "Bait" animals running around so people can get guts quicker.

Well, you don't have to catch the fish yourself. You can use the gold you make selling the loot you get grinding XP to buy the potions (or the money you make selling the fragments). It's really a matter of what your priority is.

Well that's kinda my point. It's a crap drop rate to fish it yourself. Makes more sense to farm gold to buy it. The only ppl fishing for roe (theoretically) should be the hardcore angler's who would be there anyhow. Anyone looking to actually use the XP pots for CP grinding are better off being friends with an Angler to get cheap Roe.

Yup, that's where I'm at. I got the fragments to make the recipe fairly quickly from the provisioning writs which I would have been doing anyways to fill out my recipe collection. I did stop to do a little fishing today just to have fun and relax for a bit while I waited for some harvest nodes to respawn, but would I sit and fish for hours just to get these Perfect Roe? Nah

I'm curious. What should perfect roe be going for in the guild stores now that it dropped to XB1 and PS4? I had 250 fillets last night and yanked 4 perfect roe. I checked about a dozen guild stores and saw them for anywhere from $32k-$50k. Checked again this morning and saw one for $100k. I sold one for $40k last night.

I'm not at all surprised. In fact it makes perfect sense if you consider what it is used for.

I'm perfectly okay with the low rate as is. Keeps the stuff valuable.

Apparently it makes the bait valuable too. I saw a guy selling 80 insect parts in the guild store for 8,000. Really? You know I can go and buy simple bait for 15g each instead of 100g each, right?

I have caught THOUSANDS of fish in the quest for my master angler.

Voltan's Fish Fillet addon shows me at 1% roe/fish caught and that is over thousands.

It's all about the random number generator. I did a little fishing this morning. Three fishing holes and got four perfect roe.

That is 4 roe per 60 fish.

By the same token I have filleted 600 fish once and got NOTHING but it averages out.

I got 1 perfect roe in 41 fish (probably caught 30 used bait) so I'm at about 1/70 or so. With that said I had no idea what to price it at (Xbox) and threw it up for 50K just to see. After seeing your 40k post I'm very interested in checking my ESO bank account tonight!

You shouldn't be getting used bait. If you are, it means you are using the wrong type of bait for that type of water. There are 4 water types and each water type has 2 baits that are good for it and will not generate used bait. I remember insect parts are specific to rivers and guts are for lakes.
