Im a big fan of the game and while i dont have a sub at the moment, the one thing that really irritated me was the constant Spamming of illegal websites/hacks/etc which would clog up the chat so talking would be difficult. i can see that happening here, especially since it is "free to play".PSN: iTofuMan

The spams were annoying; but you must remember the game was also cross platform. How much do you want to bet the majority of the spammers in FFXIV:ARR were on PC, not on console? I seriously doubt the spammers would work on console (lack of automation, ability to have console bans, etc); but I could be wrong.
Not to mention, from what I've heard, spamming isn't an issue on PC version of this game due to the character deletion logic ZOS has implemented. Bots and spammers have been resolved, without removing text chat (someone please correct me if I am wrong) from what I understand. So, you may be worrying about something that doesn't exist even on PC.
Finally, even if spammers could/would exist on console, their bad behavior should not be used to punish players who would use the tool (text chat in this case) correctly, by using spammers as an excuse to not add text chat. Punish the offenders, not everyone else. I'd gladly deal with spammers in order to have a viable method of communication with randoms and an effective method to communicate with my very large guild.Crusader of The Knights of the Alessian Order

See now if thats the case then i would be fine. Im someone who like to stay in Towns/city and talk to people/friends. it was irritating to see spammers all over the place and basically seeing nothing from my friends side of the conversation because chat from others would block it. as long as some type of implication for spammers/botters is handled then Type Chat would be great!PSN: iTofuMan

I imagine the tool to be used like it is in H1Z1 etc to become a social open world experience where you can just go to a crafting area and say can anyone make me a sword? but if people just turn it off or refuse to use their mics this awesome feature is useless.

I guess it works that way in the land of fluffy bunnies and unicorn popsicles, but in online gaming, it's never going to happen. Instead you have a bunch of white kids calling each other N and idiots spamming every known query known to man. Constant, nonstop crap spewed and a rate impossible to mute fast enough.

✭Because the PS4 mic is always on (no push to talk) I always have mine disabled.
I talk to my wife while playing and people don't want to hear my dogs.
Release day, I heard a lot of talking during the starter (prison) quest, most was nothing to do with the game for the reason I just mentioned.
In Daggerfall (EU) again was a lot of shouting, swearing, totally immersion breaking stuff blaring through my amp, and I simply disabled it.
Today I enabled it again to see how things have progressed, was back at daggerfall and other areas, a lot of people around all I heard was one person having a coughing fit. No one else spoke.
I suspect like me, many play on the main TV in living room, hence don't want swearing etc blasting through for the rest of the family to hear, or also like me, found it totally immersion breaking, hence most have disabled it.
It's one thing to voice chat in a dungeon or pvp with group members. It's another thing all together to get random people talking, shouting, swearing etc while doing normal questing etc.0 -

If you don't want text chat because in pvp you will be at a disadvantage then that's your own fault, voice chat in pvp is proximity so far away you will never hear anything. having chat on will give a new level of communication which IMO is VERY MUCH NEEDED in pvp right now to even know where people are fighting, and to turn that off would be your own fault and unwillingness to be part of a greater community.0 -
